Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Electronics and televisions

Accepted with preparation

Electronic equipment is named in the city bulky waste description, and the city also runs two collection events a year for electronic waste, four county centers that take it free and two Goodwill locations in Mission Viejo.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Electronic equipment rides the free bulky collection within the five item allowance, and the county collection centers are free to Orange County residents with no appointment.
When & how
Schedule a bulky pickup with Waste Management at 949-642-1191 at least 48 hours before the trash day, take the device to one of the two annual city collection events, or use a county center open Tuesday through Saturday.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before the device leaves the house, keep electronics out of all three carts because electronic waste cannot go in the trash, and check with the Public Works Department on 949-470-3056 for the next city event date.

Three carts, three streams

Every Mission Viejo household runs a black-lid landfill cart, a blue-lid mixed recyclables cart and a green-lid organics cart, in 35, 64 or 96 gallons. Recycling takes paper, metal, glass and plastics; organics takes food scraps, yard trimmings and non-hazardous wood waste; and the landfill cart takes what is neither, such as polystyrene foam, plastic film, plastic utensils, soiled or wax-coated cups, pet waste, diapers and garden hoses. Recycling and organics carts carry no extra charge, while an additional trash cart does.

Five large items, three times a year, on the trash day

Bulky collection happens on the regular trash collection day and costs nothing, with up to five large items allowed three times a year. Furniture, appliances, electronic equipment and similar items qualify, while car bodies and construction and demolition waste do not. The pickup has to be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance through Waste Management.

Household hazardous waste limits and refusals

A household can bring 125 pounds or 15 gallons of household hazardous waste per vehicle to a city collection event, with each container no larger than five gallons. Events take paint products and thinners, antifreeze, pool chemicals, household cleaners, fire extinguishers, used motor oil and filters, thermometers, smoke detectors, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, and electronic waste. Sharps, ammunition, appliances larger than microwaves, asbestos, construction materials, leaking containers, pressurized cylinders, tires, trash, explosives, radioactive waste, biomedical waste and unknowns are refused, and batteries and sharps run through their own programmes.

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.
