Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronic waste is not allowed in a cart and goes to the city's household hazardous waste facility by appointment, to a retailer that collects it, or on a free large item collection when the piece is bulky.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city household hazardous waste facility takes electronics at no charge by appointment for a resident of Thousand Oaks or unincorporated Ventura County, Goodwill takes nearly all electronic waste at no charge, and a bulky television or copier goes out inside the two free collections a year. Tempus, formerly PC Recycle, charges for some items, including printers and microwaves and photocopiers, and Gold Coast Recycling in Ventura takes listed electronics from Ventura County residents but not from businesses.
When & how
Book an appointment at the household hazardous waste facility at 2010 Conejo Center Drive for a Friday or Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., drop the device at a Goodwill that is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., or schedule a bulky item collection at 805-852-5264 for a large screen or copier.
Get it ready
Keep the device whole and out of every cart, because a state law prohibition applies and it is illegal to place e-waste in a container. Bring photo identification, a utility bill or another proof of residency to the hazardous waste facility. Wipe or remove personal data before the device leaves your hands, and note that Tempus refuses hard drives, console televisions, tube televisions and monitors larger than 32 inches, refrigerant containing electronics and appliances.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

A large item is a request, not a curb pile

Furniture, mattresses, appliances and other large items are collected by request on one of the two free collections a calendar year, and the city asks residents not to put bulky items, electronics, construction debris or automotive parts in the carts. Request the collection from Athens first, then set the items out as directed.

Drop small appliances and electronics at Goodwill

A household with a small appliance, a television, a computer, a phone or another electronic device that still works or at least can be plugged in.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Goodwill is a state authorized electronic waste collector and takes nearly all electronic waste at no charge, working or not, at three Thousand Oaks locations, and the city also names Goodwill as the place for small broken appliances such as a toaster oven, blender or vacuum.
Arrange it
Drop the item at 140 W. Hillcrest Dr. or 2060 Avenida de los Arboles in Thousand Oaks, or 1560 Newbury Rd. in Newbury Park. Donations are accepted seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Goodwill refuses hard wired electrical items, batteries, light bulbs and large appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, so a large appliance has to go out on a free large item collection instead.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

A Thousand Oaks household keeps most material inside the franchise system. The free route for large items is two collections a calendar year covering six items, scheduled with Athens Services at 805-852-5264, and a mattress, appliance, tire or piece of furniture goes out that way rather than in a cart. Household hazardous waste and electronic waste go to the city facility at 2010 Conejo Center Drive by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., free for a resident of Thousand Oaks or unincorporated Ventura County, and a free doorstep collection can be scheduled through Athens up to four times a year. Construction material needs a temporary bin from one of the three limited franchise haulers, a self haul with your own vehicles and equipment, or a load taken to a processing facility that verifies at least 65 percent diversion, and the nearest mixed facility is about 10 miles northeast at the Simi Valley Landfill. Twice a year the city also opens the Calabasas Landfill at 5300 Lost Hills Road in Agoura Hills from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for residents who are Athens customers, where a car or pickup load of trash, green waste, concrete, dirt, asphalt, bulky items or construction material is free, with up to five loose passenger tires allowed and tires on rims refused. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Thousand Oaks.

How much does TV removal cost in Thousand Oaks?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Thousand Oaks?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where can I take a television or computer in Thousand Oaks?

The city household hazardous waste facility at 2010 Conejo Center Drive accepts electronics by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Three Goodwill stores in town take nearly all electronic waste seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Tempus in Newbury Park takes devices on weekdays and charges for some items such as printers, microwaves and photocopiers.Official guidance

Can electronics go in the trash cart?

No. The hauler lists electronic waste among the items that must not go in a container, and the city states that broken or unwanted electronics should not be discarded in trash or recycling bins because they need special handling. A bulky television, projection television or large freestanding copier can be scheduled on a free large item collection instead.Official guidance

Who handles trash and recycling collection in Thousand Oaks?

Athens Services collects residential and commercial trash, recycling and organics under a franchise agreement with the city, and the rates are set by City Council. Athens customer care is at 805-852-5264, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon, and the city Sustainability Division is at 805-449-7283 or gogreen@toaks.org.Official guidance

Does a holiday change my collection day?

Yes. Holidays create a one day delay in collection. Athens observes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and a holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday does not delay service.Official guidance

What happens at the household hazardous waste facility?

The city facility at 2010 Conejo Center Drive in Newbury Park takes paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, batteries, used oil, antifreeze, propane cylinders, fluorescent bulbs and electronics from residents of Thousand Oaks and unincorporated Ventura County on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. An appointment is required, online registration closes at 5 p.m. the day before, a load is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds, and Clean Harbors schedules appointments at 800-356-8570.Official guidance

What is free landfill day and who can use it?

The city opens the Calabasas Landfill at 5300 Lost Hills Road in Agoura Hills from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on published dates, which are March 28, June 20 and September 26 in 2026, for Thousand Oaks residents who are current Athens customers. A resident with identification may bring up to two loads of trash, green waste, concrete, dirt, asphalt, bulky items or construction material in a car or pickup, and up to five loose passenger tires, with no late entry and no commercial or landscaping loads.Official guidance

Do apartments and complexes with shared bins get the same service?

Multi family dwellings with individual carts are covered by the single family rate sheet and by the same two collections and six item large item allowance, but a complex with centralized bin service is billed under a separate multi family and mixed use rate schedule. Call Athens at 805-852-5264 to confirm what a shared bin property receives before setting anything out.Official guidance
