The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.

You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Dubuque charges trash by the cart under a pay-as-you-throw programme, with four monthly subscriptions, free curbside recycling and a separate organics collection for city solid waste customers.
City cost & eligibility
$19.56 per month for the 35 gallon cart, which takes up to 112 pounds, with the 48 gallon cart at $21.90, the 64 gallon cart at $26.27 and the 96 gallon cart at $36.89 on the same programme. City of Dubuque solid waste customers in single-family through six-unit multi-family households, billed monthly on the city utility account.
When & how
Set the cart out by 6 a.m. on the collection day and no more than 24 hours ahead, then bring it back within 24 hours after collection. Holiday weeks may move the trash, recycling, organics and large item day, and collection can run even when other city offices are closed.
Get it ready
Do not overfill the cart, leave two feet of clearance, keep it away from parked cars, basketball hoops, fire hydrants, light poles and trees, and point the arrow on the lid toward the street. Extra bags use a single-use sticker, one per bag or item, for bags under 40 lbs and items smaller than two feet by three feet, and stickers are sold in sheets of five for 10 dollars at area stores and at Utility Billing in City Hall.
The city collects oversized items on the regular collection day for a published fee, with flat pricing by load and by item, and an extra charge for an off-route trip.
City cost & eligibility
From $14 for for a landfilled material load such as extra trash or furniture, described as ten to twelve kitchen trash bags or about the size of an average couch, with appliances and televisions or monitors at $25.00 each, small corded items and large metal material at $6.50 per pickup and automobile tires at $9.00 each. City of Dubuque solid waste customers, charged to the utility billing account, with an extra $20.00 fee for an off-route pickup.
When & how
Book the collection online, through the REThink Waste app or by phone on 563-589-4250 during business hours, then set the items out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled date and no more than 24 hours before it. Items normally go on the regular collection day, and an off-route trip costs 20 dollars more.
Get it ready
Where the landlord pays the utilities, tenants have to pre-pay at the Utility Billing counter in City Hall on 50 W. 13th Street, and a household whose utility account is in someone else's name should call Public Works to arrange the collection. Asbestos, batteries, bricks, building and construction materials, ceiling tiles, chemicals, concrete, explosives, fencing, fire extinguishers, liquids, lumber, motor oil, paint, propane cylinders, rocks, shingles and yard waste are refused.
Furniture counts as landfilled material on the city large item pickup at the couch-sized flat rate, and the same load can be self hauled to the agency landfill by the ton.
City cost & eligibility
$14 for for a landfilled material load about the size of an average couch on the city large item pickup, while self hauling the same load to the agency landfill costs $52 per ton with a $20 minimum. City of Dubuque solid waste customers on the large item route, or any customer at the agency landfill scale house.
When & how
Book the city pickup for the regular collection day, or take the piece to the agency landfill on Airborne Road between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Get it ready
One couch-sized load is the unit the city prices, so a larger clear-out either books more than one collection or goes to the landfill by weight. Keep the piece clear of the cart and out of the recycling bin, and cover a self hauled load to avoid the untarped load fee.
Appliances are collected on the city large item route for a per unit fee, and Iowa requires them to be recycled, which the agency does at the landfill for a lower per unit fee.
City cost & eligibility
$25 per appliance on the city large item pickup, while the agency landfill charges $20.00 per appliance at the scale house. City of Dubuque solid waste customers on the large item route, or any customer at the agency landfill, where appliances must be recycled under Iowa rules.
When & how
Book the city pickup for the regular collection day, or take the unit to the agency landfill on Airborne Road and pay at the scale house before staff direct the vehicle to the appliance drop-off.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit and secure the doors. Refrigerators, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, freezers, washers, dryers, water heaters, air conditioners, furnaces and water softeners are all on the appliance list, and a working refrigerator or freezer may qualify for the utility rebate programme that hauls it away and pays a rebate.
Large metal material rides the city large item pickup at a flat per pickup price, and the agency drop-off containers take only cans and jar lids rather than bulky metal.
City cost & eligibility
$6.5 per pickup for large metal material such as grills and bed rails on the city large item collection, charged to the utility account. City of Dubuque solid waste customers on the large item route. The agency household recycling containers take aluminum, jar lids and tin, steel and aluminum cans, but not bulky metal, car parts or oil filters.
When & how
Book the city large item collection online, through the REThink Waste app or on 563-589-4250, and set the metal out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day.
Get it ready
Drain fuel and fluids from grills and mowers and remove the wheels, handles and any other non-metal parts before the pickup, and keep car parts and oil filters out of the load because the recycling containers refuse them.
Trash, recycling and organics all run from the same curbside programme for households from single-family through six-unit multi-family. Carts go out by 6 a.m. on the collection day and no more than 24 hours ahead, with two feet of clearance and the lid arrow pointing toward the street, and extra trash uses a single-use sticker on each bag or item under 40 lbs and smaller than two feet by three feet. Holiday weeks can move the trash, recycling, organics and large item day, and collection may still run while city offices are closed.
The city large item service takes furniture and other oversized loads on the regular collection day, priced flat for a couch-sized load, per appliance or screen, and per pickup for small corded items and large metal. Book it online, in the REThink Waste app or on 563-589-4250, set the items out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day and no more than 24 hours before it, and expect an extra 20 dollar charge for an off-route trip. Where the landlord pays the utilities, tenants pre-pay at the Utility Billing counter in City Hall on 50 W. 13th Street.
