Desks and bookshelves
Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

When & how
Large items are collected on your regular weekly collection day when a sticker is attached and the item is out by 6 a.m. Items over 100 pounds or bulk material needing two workers must be arranged in advance with Waste Management.
Get it ready
Wrap mattresses and box springs in plastic wrap or disposal bags, roll carpeting into lengths no longer than four feet and 50 pounds each, and place toters on the driveway apron out of the roadway.
Refuse goes to the curb in covered containers by 6 a.m. on your scheduled day, and yard waste must also be out by 6 a.m. during the collection season. Containers may not sit on the parkway more than 12 hours before collection and must be removed within 12 hours after pickup.
Yard waste bags and cans should not weigh more than 50 pounds, and brush bundles must stay under 50 pounds, six feet in length and 18 inches in diameter, with non-plastic twine or string. No individual branch may exceed six inches in diameter.
Plastic wrap or disposal bags are required around mattresses and box springs before they go to the curb, and carpeting must be cut into rolls no longer than four feet and 50 pounds each.

The Village publishes two different measures, a flat rate per 100 pounds and a special collection rate per cubic yard, so confirm which one applies to your load when you book.
Lombard is a collection-only program, and the Village publishes no resident drop-off site of its own. Everything moves through the weekly Waste Management collection, the sticker system for large items and yard waste, or a scheduled bulk pickup for material over 100 pounds.
