When & how
Put furniture beside the carts on the regular collection day. Carpet rolls are limited to 5 feet and swing sets are taken in 5 foot lengths, and an unlisted item should be cleared with Public Works at 847-870-5640 before set-out.
Get it ready
Tape across the glass of mirrors and glass doors with duct tape, and put a barbecue grill out only with no propane tank unless the tank is empty.
Everything goes out on the same weekly collection day
Refuse, recycling, organics and your bulk items all ride the same weekly collection day, out as early as 4:30 p.m. the day before and no later than 6:30 a.m. that morning. A late set-out is not collected until the following week, and empty carts are taken in the same day as collection.
All garbage has to be in the refuse cart. Anything outside the cart that is not on the approved bulk item list is left behind, so hold it for the next week or call Republic Services for a special pickup, and charges apply to that collection.

Take the load to 3 Providence Way in Des Plaines, just north of River Rd. and Central Rd., on Monday 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., or Saturday 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., and unload your own vehicle.
Closed Sunday. Household hazardous waste such as paint, cleaning products, motor oil and automotive batteries, any landscape waste, concrete, asbestos roofing shingles, and medical or liquid wastes are refused, and white goods are charged per item.
