Finish clearing the space
The last few things still deserve a pickup.
You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulky material leaves Rock Island on a scheduled special pickup. Additional special pickups may be arranged for a published per pickup charge, and the city publishes a rules and regulations document alongside the page.
City cost & eligibility
$25 per additional special pickup scheduled with the Public Works Department. The charge is published for additional special pickups, and the same route refuses appliances, used tires and household hazardous materials. Masonry and railroad ties go to Millennium Waste rather than through the city route.
When & how
On the date arranged with the Public Works Department when the pickup is booked by phone.
Get it ready
Call the department to schedule the pickup and confirm that the item qualifies, because the city prints two exclusions plainly: special pickups may not be used for appliances, used tires or household hazardous materials, and bricks, concrete blocks, masonry and railroad ties have to go to Millennium Waste instead.
Construction material is split by the city's own rules. Bundled building lumber and carpet can go to the Refuse and Yard Waste Drop-Off Center for the per vehicle fee, while bricks, concrete blocks, masonry and railroad ties are refused on the special pickup route and sent to Millennium Waste.
City cost & eligibility
$25 per vehicle at the Refuse and Yard Waste Drop-Off Center, limited to the equivalent of a full-size pickup load per trip. Major credit cards are accepted and the city states that cash and personal cheques are no longer accepted. Bricks, concrete blocks, masonry and railroad ties are refused there in the special pickup rules and are directed to Millennium Waste instead.
When & how
At the drop-off centre at 13606 Knoxville Road, or at Millennium Waste for masonry, rather than on the special pickup route.
Get it ready
Tie building lumber and carpet in bundles no longer than four and a half feet and no heavier than 50 pounds, and keep masonry, railroad ties and concrete out of the city routes entirely. Each vehicle trip carries no more than the equivalent of a full-size pickup load, and the centre refuses hazardous waste, tires and appliances.
Scrap metal has no published stream of its own. Appliances and resident generated tires move free through the Rock Island County Waste Management Agency programme that the city points residents to, while the special pickup route and the drop-off centre both refuse appliances and tires, so loose metal still has to be confirmed before it moves.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free for Rock Island County residents through the Rock Island County Waste Management Agency appliance and used tire programme, which Weikert Iron and Metal Recycling runs by appointment on (877) 934-5378, with tires brought with the rims removed and a limit of four appliances and ten tires per household per year. The agency answers on (309) 788-8925. Loose scrap metal is not covered by a published city or county programme, so confirm that separately with the department on (309) 732-2200.
When & how
Book the county appliance and used tire pickup by appointment on (877) 934-5378, or confirm loose scrap metal with the department on (309) 732-2200 first.
Get it ready
Keep appliances and tires out of the drop-off centre load, which refuses them, and out of the special pickup, which refuses them as well. For an appliance or a resident generated tire, book the county programme with Weikert Iron and Metal Recycling on (877) 934-5378, bring tires with the rims removed, and stay within the limit of four appliances and ten tires per household per year. Use Millennium Waste for masonry and railroad ties rather than mixing them into a metal load.
Lumber, carpet, limbs and branches are all measured the same way at the drop-off centre: no longer than four and a half feet and no heavier than 50 pounds, with anything under two inches in diameter tied into bundles with twine or rope. Each vehicle trip carries no more than the equivalent of a full-size pickup load.
Appliances, tires and masonry do not ride the city routes
The special pickup refuses appliances, used tires and household hazardous materials, and the drop-off centre refuses hazardous waste, tires and appliances. Bricks, concrete blocks, masonry and railroad ties are directed to Millennium Waste rather than through either city route, and the appliance programme handles appliances and used tires separately.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Self-hauling in Rock Island runs through two city sites and one private one. The Refuse and Yard Waste Drop-Off Center on Knoxville Road takes a pickup load per vehicle for a flat fee, paid by major credit card, but refuses hazardous waste, tires and appliances and requires lumber, carpet, limbs and branches bundled to four and a half feet and 50 pounds. Yard waste can also be a paid subscription collected at the curb for the season with a rented cart charged on top. The special pickup route handles bulky material for a published per pickup charge, with appliances, used tires and hazardous materials excluded, and bricks, concrete blocks, masonry and railroad ties directed to Millennium Waste. Appliances and used tires have their own city programme, and the Rock Island County Waste Management Agency publishes the county's permitted landfill list for material that has to leave the city system.
