The 2026 contract sets the carts, the rates and the rules
Tinley Park's contract with Homewood Disposal Services took effect January 20, 2026, and the village publishes what it bought: a brown 95 gallon garbage cart and a green 95 gallon recycling cart at every home, additional carts for rent at 3 dollars a month for recycling, and benefits that include electronic collection, Christmas tree collection, senior and veteran discounts and an opt-in for townhome and condominium associations. As of October 1, 2026 the monthly rate is 31.16 dollars for residents, 29.66 for residents 65 and over, and nothing for certified 100 percent disabled veterans, with the discounts available only to households in the village program paying contractual rates. Village ordinance requires carts at the end of the driveway and not in the street, and payments go to Homewood Disposal rather than Village Hall.
Electronics, paint and chemicals have their own routes
Illinois banned covered electronics from landfill in 2012, so the village includes a scheduled curbside electronic pickup that has to be requested before collection and limits a single family home to two televisions or monitors a year, with screens and tubes required to be intact and data erased by the household. Paint splits by type: latex paint is non-hazardous, so it can be dried solid and put out beside the trash, while oil based paint cannot sit at the curb because it is hazardous. Household chemicals, gasoline, antifreeze, propane, car batteries, lithium and rechargeable batteries and compact fluorescent bulbs all have to leave the carts, and the routes are the Naperville regional site at 156 Fort Hill Drive on weekends, the Chicago Goose Island site on Tuesdays, Thursdays and the first Saturday of the month, the Illinois EPA one-day collections that need pre-registration, year-round PaintCare paint drop-offs that take no aerosols, and the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials at South Suburban College in South Holland for Cook County residents.
