Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Text us about your setup
  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions, computers and other electronics

Special rules apply

Electronics never belong in the blue recycling cart or the trash. Lawrence points to its Recyclable Materials Directory for year-round drop-off sites, names Goodwill and Best Buy as local retail options, and runs a one-day collection most years with a contractor.

City cost & eligibility
The city's 2026 collection day charged $40 for each CRT television, CRT monitor or projection television and $10 for each LCD television or monitor, paid by cash, PayPal or Venmo only. Those were one-day event prices and a drop-off outlet or retailer sets its own charge, so confirm the current amount before you load.
When & how
Check the city page for the current collection date. Year-round, use the directory or a retailer and confirm its hours before you travel.
Get it ready
Erase personal data before a computer leaves your hands. Take household batteries out and use the Household Hazardous Waste facility for them, and keep the device out of the trash and the recycling cart.

Use a retail electronics recycling program

A household with a television, monitor or small device that a retail program will take before the next city collection day.

Cost & conditions
A retail program sets its own acceptance list and can charge for televisions and monitors. The city links Best Buy as offering electronics recycling for a range of devices, so confirm the device and any charge with the store before you travel.
Arrange it
Check the store's current recycling terms, then bring the device to the store during its posted hours.

Retail programs do not take every item, and the store decides what it accepts and what it charges. Confirm first so the device does not travel for nothing.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Lawrence keeps most household material inside its own system rather than at a public landfill gate. A mattress, couch, appliance or other oversized item goes through the Residential Special Item Pick-Up request, electronics and other hard-to-recycle items go to an outlet listed in the city's Recyclable Materials Directory, and household chemicals and batteries go to the Household Hazardous Waste facility by appointment. The city's trash trucks and roll-off containers are tipped at the Hamm Sanitary Landfill north of Lawrence, which sets its own per-ton charge and answers landfill questions at 785-597-5111. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Lawrence.

How much does TV removal cost in Lawrence?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Lawrence?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Can a television go in the blue recycling cart?

No. The city states that electronics should never be placed in recycling carts. Use the Recyclable Materials Directory or a retailer for year-round drop-off, or the city's own collection day, and confirm the device and any charge with the site you choose.Official guidance

Who do I call about an item the form does not list?

Call the Solid Waste Division at 785-832-3032 or email solidwaste@lawrenceks.gov. The city's Recyclable Materials Directory lists local drop-off outlets for material that does not belong in the trash, in the recycling cart or on a bulky request.Official guidance

How do I get rid of paint, batteries or other household chemicals?

The City of Lawrence and Douglas County Household Hazardous Waste facility at 2201 Kresge Road takes household hazardous waste from Douglas County households at no charge on an appointment-only basis, Tuesday to Thursday and on select Saturdays. A household drop-off is limited to 75 pounds a day.Official guidance
