The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.
Flat-screen TVs
Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.
Tube TVs
An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.
TV stands and other electronics
The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

The city Recycling Center refuses electronics and sends them to the Recycling Extravaganza, where the published price is per television, and Johnson County lists local businesses that take them year-round.
City cost & eligibility
From $20 per television at the Recycling Extravaganza electronics collection, run by the event partner. The Recycling Extravaganza is open to anyone with no residency requirement, takes cash or cards, and collects most items powered by a cord or a battery including computers, televisions, printers and small appliances no larger than a minifridge. The per-television rate is the only electronic price the city publishes, so confirm other devices with a local drop-off.
When & how
Use the spring or fall Recycling Extravaganza on its published date, or a year-round business from the county electronics list, such as the Overland Park store on 135th Street or a retailer with a home haul service.
Get it ready
Never put a television, monitor or computer in a trash cart or in a Recycling Center bin, because the city lists electronics as not accepted there. Wipe or reset anything that stores data before it leaves the house, and take the remote and cables with it.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
Any Overland Park household, because curbside collection is a private subscription rather than a city service.

Call the company that serves your address from the city's permitted list and ask whether your item is included in the required yearly bulky item pickup or needs a separate arrangement and date.

A household with electronics, tires, clothing, furniture or usable goods that wants one drop-off date for several different items.
Cost & conditions
From $20 per television at the electronics collection, with other devices quoted by the event's electronics partner. The event has no residency requirement and takes cash or cards. The published electronics price is per television, and tires, clothing, furniture, bicycles, books and building materials go to separate community partners on the same day.
Arrange it
Drive to the published event address during its published hours and hand each item to the partner that collects it. The partner list is published on the city page before the event.
Partners handle only their own material and the city warns that a partner may be replaced on the day. Items must be in good or salable condition to be donated rather than recycled.
The city lists two disposal sites and states that neither Overland Park nor Johnson County runs a public landfill. The Johnson County Landfill at 17955 Holliday Drive in Shawnee takes municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, tires, treated wood and yard waste, refuses hazardous waste, opens Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and takes card or credit account payment rather than cash. The Olathe Transfer Station at 1681 S Valley Road charges by the ton with a minimum per load, quotes the higher non-resident minimum to an Overland Park vehicle, adds published per-item fees for passenger tires, large truck tires and appliances that still hold Freon, and refuses a residential load brought in a commercial vehicle or by a hired hauler. The city Recycling Center does not take electronics and points residents to the Recycling Extravaganza, whose published electronic price is per television and whose collection covers computers, printers and small appliances.
