Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and electronics

Special rules apply

Televisions, computers and other electronics do not go in the curbside collection. They go to the SOCRRA drop-off center at 995 Coolidge in Troy by appointment, where residency is checked and personal data should be removed first.

City cost & eligibility
SOCRRA publishes no fee for electronics drop-off, requires an appointment at 995 Coolidge and verifies residency with identification, so confirm the current charge when you book at (248) 288-5150.
When & how
Book an appointment online or by phone at (248) 288-5150, then drop the items off in your appointment window, with no access to the drop-off center after 3 p.m. The site is closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Get it ready
Remove personal information from every device before drop-off, because SOCRRA does not wipe data for you. Bring identification showing Troy residency, and bring help for heavy items because attendants only assist with items under 40 pounds.

Electronics, batteries and yard waste need another route

Electronics and batteries stay out of the curbside collection because of fire and handling risk, and yard waste cannot be collected as trash or in plastic bags. Electronics and batteries go to SOCRRA's drop-off center at 995 Coolidge by appointment, batteries can also go in the container at the Department of Public Works, and yard waste needs the city's stamped container or a paper yard waste bag during the season.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Both of SOCRRA's operating sites sit inside Troy, which makes the self-haul routes short. The drop-off center at 995 Coolidge takes electronics, household hazardous waste, styrofoam, batteries and paper shredding by appointment for member community residents, and the transfer station at 991 Coolidge takes trash loads by weight without an appointment during limited weekday and Saturday hours. The Department of Public Works at 4693 Rochester Rd keeps a cardboard dumpster and a battery container open to residents at any time. Neither Coolidge site takes yard waste, and no SOCRRA facility accepts brush, branches or woody tree material: the authority directs yard waste to its Spurt-SOCRRA compost site at 1741 School Road in Rochester Hills, open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Confirm the drop-off arrangement with the site before loading, and keep using the city's stamped container or a paper yard waste bag in season. SOCRRA publishes no fee for the drop-off streams described here and requires an appointment with residency verification, so confirm the current charge when you book at (248) 288-5150.

29699 Southfield Road, Southfield, MI 48076

Electronics from the same accepted list SOCRRA publishes, which includes computer monitors, CPUs, televisions, radios, telephones and cell phones.

Call (248) 233-4477 for the current hours, because the site does not publish a schedule.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Troy.

How much does TV removal cost in Troy?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Troy?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do Troy residents take a television?

Televisions are on the electronics list the city routes to SOCRRA's drop-off center at 995 Coolidge in Troy. The center takes items by appointment only for residents of member communities, and an attendant verifies residency when you arrive.Official guidance

Can batteries go in the Troy recycling cart?

No. Batteries are refused curbside because they are a fire risk in the collection trucks. Alkaline, lithium, lithium-ion and NiCad household batteries can go in the battery container at the Department of Public Works at 4693 Rochester Rd, and batteries are also taken at SOCRRA by appointment.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in Troy?

The city's Refuse and Recycling Division runs weekly collection through its contractor Tringali Sanitation, and it serves single family homes, condominiums, apartments, mobile homes, duplexes and small commercial businesses. Routes run Monday through Thursday, and oversized or excluded loads are quoted by phone at 248.585.9120.Official guidance

Do apartments and condominiums in Troy get curbside collection?

The city says its contractor serves single family homes, condominiums, apartments, mobile homes, duplexes and small commercial businesses every week. Shared properties can still have their own set-out spot or rules for bulky items, so confirm the arrangement with the property before scheduling a pickup at a multi unit address.Official guidance

Where else can Troy residents take material the curb will not take?

SOCRRA's drop-off center at 995 Coolidge takes electronics, household hazardous waste, styrofoam, batteries, paper shredding and scrap metal by appointment for residents of member communities, and the transfer station at 991 Coolidge takes trash loads by weight without an appointment during limited hours. The Department of Public Works at 4693 Rochester Rd also keeps a cardboard dumpster and a battery container open to residents at any time.Official guidance
