Mattresses and box springs are accepted at the city's Community Drop-off Day in every size and are dismantled for recycling, and the Hennepin County facility at Brooklyn Park also takes them.
City cost & eligibility
The city event charges a flat price per mattress or box spring piece in any size and sends the material to the Second Chance Recycling mattress program. The Hennepin County drop-off facility charges its own per-item price and takes mattresses at the Brooklyn Park transfer station only. Haulers set their own price.
When & how
Use a Community Drop-off Day, with the 2026 dates on Saturday, June 6 and Saturday, Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., or bring the mattress to the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway N. in Brooklyn Park, Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress clean and dry, remove bedding and bed frames, and confirm whether the city or the county will take both the mattress and its box spring before you load.
The city holds two large-item drop-off days a year at Minnetonka Public Works, 11522 Minnetonka Blvd., in the east parking lot, and publishes a price for each accepted material. Payment is cash or a check payable to the City of Minnetonka, and concrete, construction debris, electronics, garbage, hazardous waste, batteries, liquids, railroad ties and shingles are refused.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

The city publishes a price for each accepted material and takes cash or a check payable to the City of Minnetonka. Confirm the current price list before the event.

Two Saturdays a year, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the east parking lot at Minnetonka Public Works, 11522 Minnetonka Blvd. The 2026 dates are June 6 and Sept. 12.
Minnetonka residents only. Electronics, construction debris, concrete, garbage, household hazardous waste, household and rechargeable batteries, liquids, mercury thermometers, printers, railroad ties and shingles are not accepted.

The county charges by item for tires, televisions, computer monitors and laptops, large appliances and mattresses, while other electronics, household hazardous waste, recycling and organics are accepted at no charge. Bring proof of residency.
Arrange it
Drive to the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway N. in Brooklyn Park, Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stay in your vehicle and carry items in the trunk, truck bed or a trailer.
Hennepin County households only, with proof of residency. Mattresses and box springs are accepted at the Brooklyn Park transfer station only. Furniture, carpet, construction materials, remodeling debris, wood, concrete and asphalt, yard waste and garbage are not accepted.
Household items that do not fit a cart, when you would rather not drive to a drop-off day or the county facility.
Cost & conditions
The city publishes no citywide large-item pickup and no price for one, so the cost comes from the hauler that serves your address.

Not all haulers serve all parts of the city, and large-item service and yard waste charges are set by each company, so confirm acceptance and the price before you set anything out.

Accepted at the Brooklyn Park transfer station only, from Hennepin County households with proof of residency, and charged per item. The city's Community Drop-off Day is the other local route and sends its mattresses to the Second Chance Recycling program.
Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday, and closed on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Juneteenth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Phone 612-348-3777.
Tires are $5 each with or without rims, under four feet in diameter, no bicycle tires, up to 16 tires per load and 32 per household each year. Televisions, computer monitors and laptops are $10 each. Large appliances are $15 each. Mattresses and box springs are $25 each item, Brooklyn Park only. Other electronics, household hazardous waste, recycling and organics carry no charge, and electronics are limited to five items of the same type per year.

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed.
