Yard waste is illegal in household garbage. Haulers must offer curbside yard waste collection during the growing season, and Minnetonka Public Works runs a resident drop-off site for brush, leaves and garden material.

Get it ready
Bring a driver's license, state ID or Minnetonka utility bill, cover the load during transport and take every bag home, including compostable bags. Brush is accepted up to eight feet long with no diameter limit, while leaves, garden material and sticks or branches smaller than one half-inch in diameter belong in the separate leaf area.
Flatten cardboard and put it in the recycling cart, which is collected every two weeks, and bring larger amounts to the city recycling drop-off center, where cardboard must be flattened.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Recycling fees are included in the quarterly utility bill and the city drop-off center publishes no separate charge for household recyclables, so there is no additional cardboard charge on either route.

Recycling is collected every two weeks: Mondays for addresses west of I-494 and Tuesdays east of I-494. The drop-off center is self-service and open around the clock.
Get it ready
Flatten every box, keep the material loose in the cart, and take Styrofoam, plastic film and packing material out first. Only items inside the cart are collected, so anything left on the ground needs the drop-off center instead.
Renovation material is refused at both municipal drop-off routes, so it moves through a roll-off container, a private construction and demolition landfill, or a commercial transfer station.

Separate concrete and asphalt from mixed material, because the city lists Midwest Asphalt at 952-937-8033 for those loads. Keep hazardous material, liquids and treated wood out, and remember that concrete, construction debris, railroad ties and shingles are refused at the city event.
A Bagster bag is a store-bought dumpster bag that holds a small cleanout or renovation load and is collected on request by Waste Management, one of Minnetonka's licensed haulers.

The pickup price is quoted when you place the order and is not published on the manufacturer's page, and the bag itself is bought separately at a store. Confirm the price and the address coverage when you schedule the collection.
When & how
Buy the bag at a home improvement store, fill it, then schedule the collection online or by phone at 877-789-2247 (877-789-BAGS).
Get it ready
Keep the bag within its published limits of about three cubic yards and 3,300 pounds, place it where the truck can reach it, and check the manufacturer's acceptable materials list before filling it because household hazardous waste and other restricted material does not belong in the bag.
Tires are accepted at the city's Community Drop-off Day and at the Hennepin County drop-off facility, both with published per-tire charges.

Minnetonka residents only, who must present a driver's license, state ID or Minnetonka utility bill. Contractors may not dispose of yard waste or brush here, even from a Minnetonka property. Bags of any kind are refused, including compostable bags. Stumps, dirt, sod, trash, metal, plastics, concrete, lumber, fences, wood scraps and noxious weeds such as garlic mustard and thistle are refused.
