Flat-screen TVs
Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.
Tube TVs
An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

St. Peters splits electronics two ways. A television or monitor can go out as a bulky item, but only with the glass taped in a big X and kept in its own pile, and Recycle City no longer takes flat screens. The drop-off route is St. Charles County Recycle Works, which publishes a per item fee list.
City cost & eligibility
Recycle Works Central publishes the per item figures rather than one price: a CPU or a flat screen monitor is 5 dollars, a CRT monitor 20 dollars, a flat screen television of any size 15 dollars, a CRT television under 30 inches 30 dollars and 30 inches and over 40 dollars, with a wood console or rear projection television at 50 dollars and a floor copier at 50 cents per pound. Keyboards, mice, fax machines, scanners, laptops, typewriters, cell phones, DVD players, VCRs, stereos, clock radios, video game systems, Christmas light strands and cords carry no charge. Confirm the exact item at the counter before loading.

Get it ready
Tape a big X from corner to corner across the glass with duct tape and place the item in a pile on its own so the driver can see it, because the city states that glass items without tape are not collected. Wipe personal data before a computer leaves the house, and remember that Recycle City refuses electronics at its drop-off center and no longer accepts flat screen televisions.
The bulky program is the city's own route for anything too large for the cart. Every home gets up to two scheduled collections a year at no extra cost, picks its own date, and may set out bulky trash or bulky yard waste, not both at once. Space is first come, first served.

Get it ready
Keep the load inside 3 cubic yards, about a pickup truck bed, stay at least 4 feet from cars, mailboxes and trees, and keep everything out from under utility lines. Brush and limbs go in a separate pile as their own collection and are never bundled, and appliances, glass, stoves and mowers all need the preparation the city asks for.

Each home gets up to two scheduled collections a year at no extra cost, with a ceiling of 3 cubic yards per collection, about a pickup truck bed, and anything over that amount is left behind. A household may set out bulky trash or bulky yard waste, but not both at the same time.
Four preparation steps decide whether the pile is collected
The city asks for specific preparation before a bulky load goes out. Stoves need their latched doors removed, and lawn mowers need the gasoline and oil drained. Glass items, including shower doors, windows, mirrors, television sets and computer monitors, need a big X of duct tape across the glass and a pile of their own, because the city states that glass without tape is not collected. Brush and limbs go in a separate pile as their own collection, are never bundled, and stay under 4 feet in length and 8 inches in diameter. Everything sits at least 4 feet from cars, mailboxes and trees and never under a utility line.
Only the container the city furnishes may be used, and everything has to go inside it. The cart goes to the curb by 6:30 a.m. on collection day and no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before, with the wheels and the handle facing the home, and stays 4 feet from cars, mailboxes and streetlights. The lid may not stand open more than 12 inches, and the cart is stored out of sight from the street between collections. Sharps go in a heavy-duty puncture-resistant container with a teaspoon of bleach and a taped lid and never in a blue bag, and hot ashes wait in a metal container outside until they are fully cool.

The facility serves St. Charles County residents and may refuse items or change fees, mattresses and box springs are refused, gas-powered and ammonia refrigerators are refused, latex or water-based paint is refused, and refrigerant appliances have to arrive intact so the Freon can be removed on site. Household chemicals are not taken outside the May to September window.

The service runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed on city holidays, with hand unloaders arriving at least 30 minutes and automated tippers at least 15 minutes before closing. Payment is by MasterCard, Visa or Discover.
Tires, yard waste, paint cans containing paint, engine oil and other petroleum-based flammable liquids, asbestos, sealed barrels or drums, compressed or inert gas bottles, hazardous materials and fiberglass watercraft are refused outright, and a load with prohibited or falsely identified material adds a service fee. Freon items and hot tubs each carry an extra charge.

At the drop-off center, newspapers, mixed paper, junk mail, telephone books, magazines, chipboard, white paper, flattened corrugated cardboard, brown paper grocery bags, rinsed aluminum and tin cans, glass bottles and jars in any color and plastic bottles and jars other than black plastic and number 4 or number 6. Walk-in trash disposal takes household and project loads by weight on the tipping floor.
The drop-off center refuses batteries, hazardous chemicals, electronics, light bulbs, plastic food wrap and grocery bags, styrofoam, window glass, china, mirrors, Pyrex, tires and liquids, and it no longer accepts flat screen televisions. Walk-in disposal refuses tires, yard waste, paint cans containing paint, engine oil and petroleum-based flammables, asbestos, sealed barrels or drums, compressed or inert gas bottles, hazardous materials and fiberglass watercraft.
The drop-off center is described as open during daylight hours seven days a week, while the page's own hours block reads Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. with weekends closed, so confirm before a trip.
