Bags, tags and recycling follow the same set out window

Everything for curbside collection goes out by 7 a.m. on your trash day, and nothing goes to the curb earlier than 4 p.m. the day before. A 15 gallon Dover bag holds no more than 20 pounds and a 30 gallon bag no more than 35 pounds, both tied shut, and a tagged bulky item leaves on the same day as the trash. Recycling goes out with it, and the city will not collect bottles, cans or paper that are left curbside in plastic bags.

A tag is the curb route, and it stops at metal

The bulky item tag is published for non-metal items, so a couch, a mattress, a toilet or a rolled carpet can leave from the curb while a refrigerator, a washer, a television, a microwave and a large load of construction material cannot. Buy the tag before collection day at the City Clerk's Office, the Public Works facility on Mast Road, the Recycling Center or a store that sells Dover bags, and attach it to the item you are setting out.

A household with metal, an appliance, a television or computer, construction debris, batteries, waste oil, antifreeze, a tire, a propane tank, a metal framed exercise machine or yard waste.

Cost & conditions
From $0 per drop, since the city takes household recycling, metal, yard waste, batteries, waste oil, antifreeze and compostable food scraps without a published fee while it weighs construction and demolition debris and charges per item for televisions, monitors, computers, microwaves, refrigerated appliances and propane tanks. Dover residents and contractors with the no-charge vehicle permit issued at the City Clerk's Office; bring the current vehicle registration and an ID, and pay by check, credit or debit card at the site.
Arrange it
Take the material to 265 Mast Road during the published hours and unload it yourself at the marked area for each material, allowing extra time if the load has to be weighed.

The site does not take bulky items, household trash or hazardous waste, padded furniture is refused, and the construction scale closes fifteen minutes before the gate. A dump trailer with a box longer than twelve feet cannot dump there, and the city points that load to the alternative sites it names.

Fluorescent tubes are limited to residents, the construction and demolition scale closes fifteen minutes before the gate, and a dump trailer with a box longer than twelve feet or a load larger than a one ton dump truck is turned away.

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The city brochure also lists a seasonal Sunday opening that the web pages do not show, so confirm before travelling on a Sunday.

From $0 per drop, since the city publishes no fee for household recycling, metal, yard waste, batteries, waste oil, antifreeze or compostable food scraps while it weighs construction and demolition debris at ten cents a pound for a resident load with a five dollar minimum and fifteen cents a pound for a contractor load with a twenty five dollar minimum, and charges per item for televisions, monitors, microwaves, computers, refrigerated appliances and propane tanks. Dover residents and contractors dropping material at the site with the no-charge vehicle permit; payment is by check, credit or debit card, and a card payment adds a processing fee.
