Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Electronics, televisions and computers

Accepted with preparation

New York State law prohibits discarding electronics in the trash or in curb recycling, so a television, a computer or another device with a circuit board or cord has to go to a state electronic waste collection site. The city names the county ecopark on Avion Drive and several other sites, and the county states that since January 1, 2023 no entity in the state may charge a consumer to recycle covered electronic equipment.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. No charge. New York State law prohibits any entity from charging a consumer to recycle covered electronic equipment, and the city lists electronic waste collection sites including the county ecopark on Avion Drive and a computer recycling business on Lyell Avenue. Confirm drop-off procedures and hours with the site before the trip.
When & how
Take the device to a New York State electronic waste collection site rather than setting it out for collection. The county ecopark is open Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., closed on holidays, and needs no appointment for electronics.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before the device leaves the house, and keep the device out of the trash and out of the curb recycling bin, because the state bans both. The ecopark takes tube and flat screen televisions and monitors whether they are intact or broken, computers and accessories, cell phones and other electronic waste no appointment needed.

For electronics and chemicals

Electronics never go in the trash or the recycling cart, because New York State law bans both. Take a television, a computer or another device to a state electronic waste collection site such as the county ecopark, and book an appointment for household chemicals. Latex paint less than a third full or already dried is the exception: the city says to add clay-based cat litter, let it harden, and put the can out with the regular refuse.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Rochester.

How much does TV removal cost in Rochester?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Rochester?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do televisions and computers go in Rochester?

To a New York State electronic waste collection site, because state law prohibits putting electronics in the trash or in curb recycling. The county ecopark on Avion Drive takes electronics with no appointment on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, the city also lists a computer recycling business on Lyell Avenue and two other services, and the county states that no entity in the state may charge a consumer to recycle covered electronic equipment. Wipe the device before it leaves the house.Official guidance

What will Rochester not collect?

Radioactive, volatile, highly flammable, explosive, biomedical, infectious, toxic or hazardous material, and any waste generated by a contractor rather than the property owner. Electronics cannot go in the trash or in curb recycling because New York State law prohibits it, so a television or computer has to go to a state electronic waste collection site. An overloaded wheeled container is not collected, glass and sharp objects cannot go in plastic bags, and the county ecopark refuses mattresses, household garbage, building materials, alkaline and lead acid batteries, used motor oil and several other categories.Official guidance

What does the Monroe County ecopark take?

Electronics, appliances, scrap metal, rechargeable and button batteries, fluorescent and CFL bulbs, sharps and syringes, pharmaceuticals, paper for shredding, clothing for donation, cooking oil, propane and other gas cylinders, vape pens, fire extinguishers and tires, plus household hazardous waste by appointment. Refused items include mattresses and foam toppers, household garbage, building materials, alkaline and lead acid batteries, used motor oil, asbestos, PVC pipe, radioactive materials, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and Styrofoam food containers. The site is for Monroe County residents, open Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning.Official guidance
