A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulk items on the regular collection day

Accepted with preparation

Bulk items are collected as part of the same programme as the trash, so most pieces go out on the normal collection day without a special appointment. refrigerant appliances and extra large or specialty items are the exceptions and must be scheduled.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the annual trash and recycling fee, which the city describes as all inclusive for trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk items. A scheduled refrigerant appliance or specialty item may carry an additional charge quoted by the hauler.
When & how
On the household collection day for the zone the property sits in, with the item at the curb between 6 p.m. the night before and 7 a.m. on the day. Schedule with Local Waste Services on 614-583-5370 for a refrigerator, freezer or other refrigerant unit, and for an extra large or specialty item.
Get it ready
Break furniture down as far as it will go, wrap mattresses, box springs and other upholstered pieces in plastic, and roll carpet or rugs with cuts at four feet and no more than fifty pounds a roll. Keep construction debris, electronics, hazardous waste, tires, scrap metal, lawn mowers and car batteries out of the pile, and do not put out an uncontained move-out pile without calling the hauler first.

Furniture, mattresses and carpet

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is on the accepted bulk list, and upholstered pieces including mattresses, box springs and couches have to be wrapped in plastic before they go to the curb.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the annual trash and recycling fee, which covers trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk items with no separate sticker.
When & how
On the household collection day, with the piece at the curb between 6 p.m. the night before and 7 a.m. on the day.
Get it ready
Break down tables, chairs, bookcases, bed frames and dressers as much as possible, and wrap a mattress, box spring or couch in plastic because the city requires it for anything soft or upholstered. Roll carpet and rugs, cut them to four feet and keep each roll under fifty pounds.
Upper Arlington bulk items page with the accepted large appliances, the scheduled refrigerant appliance rule, the furniture list, the plastic wrap requirement for upholstered furniture and mattresses, the carpet roll limits, the scheduled specialty items, the hauler scheduling number and the refusals covering construction debris, electronic waste with the drop off address and hours, hazardous waste, uncontained piles and the refusal of tires, scrap metal, lawn mowers and car batteries

Appliances and cooling units

Accepted with preparation

Large appliances are on the accepted bulk list, and anything holding refrigerant has to be scheduled with the hauler rather than simply placed at the curb.

City cost & eligibility
The annual fee covers bulk collection, while the city states that a refrigerant appliance may carry an additional charge, so confirm the amount with Local Waste Services on 614-583-5370 when the pickup is scheduled.
When & how
Schedule the refrigerant unit with the hauler before it goes out. Other appliances ride the regular collection day for the zone, at the curb between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and take the propane tank off a grill. Keep a refrigerant appliance separate from the rest of the pile until the pickup is booked, because it is the one appliance type the city singles out for scheduling.

Carts, zones and set out windows

Accepted with preparation

One hauler runs the whole city under a single annual fee, with four collection zones and a narrow set out window for all four streams.

City cost & eligibility
$300.5 for the annual base fee plus the administrative and community recycling fees, billed in two semi-annual instalments on the City utility account. Every Upper Arlington household, including single family homes, apartments and condominiums, with the fee running with the property and not prorated. A senior discount applies to a single unit homeowner aged 60 or over who lives at the address.
When & how
Mondays in Zone 1, Tuesdays in Zone 2, Wednesdays in Zone 3 and Thursdays in Zone 4, with the boundary streets published. Items go out between 6 p.m. the night before and 7 a.m. on the day, and carts come back in by 7 a.m. the next day.
Get it ready
Put the carts in the grass at the edge of the curb rather than in the street or the curb lane, keep them at least three feet from other items, and keep bulk material and yard waste out of the carts. Holiday delays move collection by a day, and the city notes that when the holiday falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday there is no delay.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Upper Arlington runs almost everything through the one hauler, so self haul matters in two places. Yard waste that the curbside rules cannot take, and dirt or mulch that is not yard waste at all, can go to the Ohio Mulch Regional Composting Facility at 4120 Roberts Road in Columbus, where residents show proof of residency and drop accepted material free of charge, with dirt and mulch handled separately. Electronics cannot go in a cart or a bulk pile and are taken to the city's own drop off at the Public Service Center on Roberts Road on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everything else that is refused at the curb, from construction debris to tires, scrap metal, lawn mowers, car batteries and hazardous waste, has no city route published on the pages retained here, so a resident has to look outside the city programme. Upper Arlington trash and recycling page with the Local Waste Services contract, the single semi-annual fee covering trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk, the four collection zones and their boundary streets, the set out window from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. with the carts back in the next day, the holiday delay pattern, the yard waste bag container and bundle rules with the fifty pound caps and the no plastic bag and no mixed pile rules, the yard waste decals and the Ohio Mulch composting drop offUpper Arlington bulk items page with the accepted large appliances, the scheduled refrigerant appliance rule, the furniture list, the plastic wrap requirement for upholstered furniture and mattresses, the carpet roll limits, the scheduled specialty items, the hauler scheduling number and the refusals covering construction debris, electronic waste with the drop off address and hours, hazardous waste, uncontained piles and the refusal of tires, scrap metal, lawn mowers and car batteries

City e-waste and battery drop offs

Upper Arlington Public Service Center

Upper Arlington Public Service Center, 4100 Roberts Road, Columbus, OH 43228, and the Upper Arlington Public Library Tremont Road Branch, 2800 Tremont Road

Electronic waste with a cord or a battery, which the city names as computers, cell phones, iPods, tablets, stereos, printers and other home electronics, plus all single use household batteries from AA and AAA to 9 volt, C, D, button and lithium primary cells and rechargeable Ni-CD, Ni-Zn and Li-Ion batteries.

Televisions and CRT monitors are not accepted at either drop off and go to a local e-waste recycler such as the ones on the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio list. Batteries are accepted at the Roberts Road site only and not at the library branch, and a damaged battery has to be individually bagged in a clear plastic bag.

Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

No fee is published for the drop off on the retained page, so confirm the current terms with the Public Service Department before the trip.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Upper Arlington.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Upper Arlington?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

Do Upper Arlington bulk items need an appointment?

Most do not. Furniture, appliances and other qualifying large items are picked up on the normal trash and recycling collection day as part of the annual fee. A refrigerator, freezer or other appliance containing refrigerant has to be scheduled, and an extra large or specialty item is scheduled too, with any additional charge quoted by Local Waste Services on 614-583-5370.Official guidance

How should an Upper Arlington mattress be set out?

Mattresses and box springs are collected as upholstered furniture, and the city requires every soft or upholstered piece to be wrapped in plastic for collection. They go out on the household collection day between 6 p.m. the night before and 7 a.m., with furniture broken down as far as possible.Official guidance

Can a refrigerator simply go to the Upper Arlington curb?

No. Refrigerators, freezers and other appliances containing refrigerant must be scheduled for collection, and the city says additional charges may apply. Other appliances such as ovens, stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters and dishwashers ride the regular collection day, and a grill goes out with its propane tank removed.Official guidance

How does Upper Arlington decide the collection day?

By one of four zones. Zone 1 is collected Mondays, Zone 2 Tuesdays, Zone 3 Wednesdays and Zone 4 Thursdays, with the boundaries published against Canterbury Road, Tremont Road, Lane Avenue, Fishinger Road and Reed Road. All four streams, including yard waste and bulk items, are collected on that day.Official guidance

How does Upper Arlington collect bulky items?

Bulk items are part of the same programme as the trash, so most pieces go out on the regular collection day under the annual fee with no sticker or appointment. Upholstered furniture, mattresses and box springs need plastic wrap, carpet has to be rolled under fifty pounds a roll, and a refrigerator, freezer or other refrigerant appliance plus any extra large or specialty item has to be scheduled with the hauler.Official guidance

What will Upper Arlington not take at the curb?

Construction debris such as concrete, sinks, toilets, cabinets and doors, electronic waste, hazardous waste including oil based paint, batteries and pool chemicals, uncontained move-out piles, tires, scrap metal, lawn mowers and car batteries. Electronics go to the city drop off on Roberts Road, hazardous waste goes through the county programme, and the rest needs a route outside the city collection.Official guidance
