Cut limbs and branches to less than five feet and under six inches in diameter. Horry County bans yard waste in plastic bags, so use a loose pile. Material produced by a landscape contractor or tree service is not collected and stays with the contractor.
Roll carts, recycling and yard waste go to the street no later than 7 a.m. on the designated collection day, and the cart is returned to the home once it is emptied.
Yard waste goes in a neat pile near the street, separate from household garbage and recycling, and electronic waste stays out of the recycling cart so the City can divert it.

City customers can use the transfer station at 1220 2nd Avenue South between regular collection days for bagged garbage, recyclables, yard waste and electronics, and it is open every day of the week with shorter weekend hours. Large renovation loads, scrap metal and other prohibited material have to go to the Horry County Solid Waste Authority, whose convenience centers serve only residents of unincorporated areas of the county, or to a private hauler.
