Flattened empty cardboard boxes tied into a bundle

One less thing to work around

Unpacked. Settled in. Still surrounded by boxes?

The new furniture is in place. The deliveries are opened. Choose the cardboard you have and get the space back, without turning a stack of boxes into a guessing game.

Choose with confidence

Boxes, bundles and bales are three different things.

A bundle is ten flattened boxes. A bale is mechanically compacted cardboard, securely strapped together and staged at an accessible loading dock.

Loose empty boxes.

Count each empty box as one item. Remove contents, plastic packing and foam. This choice is for the cardboard box itself.

Bundles of 10.

Flatten ten empty boxes and tie them into one bundle. Twenty-three boxes? Choose two ten-box bundles and three loose boxes. Count each box once.

Compacted bales.

Choose small for 50–150 lb, medium for 151–300 lb or large for 301–500 lb. Every bale must be securely bound and accessible from a loading dock. Unknown weight, no dock or over 500 lb? Ask our team first.

A little prep. A simpler pickup.

Choose your items now, then get them ready for your selected pickup day.

A tied stack of flattened boxes is a bundle, not a bale. Do not choose a bale based only on how large it looks.

Your place. One easy pickup plan.

A house, a condo or an apartment. Choose an accessible outdoor spot that works for your property. You arrange the move outside; we take it from there.

Text us about your setup
  1. Empty and separate.

Remove the contents and packing material. Set aside filled household boxes and add them as separate items if they are also going.

  2. Count boxes or confirm bale weight.

Tie each ten-box bundle together. For compacted bales, use the actual weight to choose the correct option.

  3. Prepare the right access.

Loose boxes and bundles need an accessible outdoor spot. Bales need a loading dock; keep them securely bound and tell us about dock access before pickup.

Curbside recycling

Accepted with preparation

Cardboard, paper, bottles and jugs and food and beverage cans go in the recycling container, while plastic film and any foam stay out.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Recycling is part of the city garbage service rather than a separate charge, and the published pickup calendar comes from the contracted operator.
When & how
On the address's recycling day according to the operator's published calendar, with questions on the route going to Ace Disposal.
Get it ready
Recycle cardboard boxes, office paper, junk mail and magazines, plastic bottles and jugs, and food and beverage cans, and keep the material clean because food waste makes cardboard and paper break down faster. Remove cardboard and newspaper from any plastic film and put the film in the garbage. Keep plastic bags, wraps and films out of the recycling container, and keep foam of any kind out as well, including egg cartons and packaging foam. Wet or soggy cardboard and paper are refused, so do not set recycling out in the rain or put yard waste in the container.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Container at the curb by seven in the morning

Put the green City container at the edge of the street next to the driveway and opposite the mailbox, clear of driveways and roadways, with the wheels close to the curb and the lid opening facing the street. It has to be out by seven in the morning on the pickup day, the lid has to stay shut and nothing goes beside it, because only garbage inside the container is collected. Bring it back off the street as soon as it has been emptied.

With a new purchase

Take metal to a scrap metal recycler

A household with metal that is not a food or beverage can.

Cost & conditions
The City publishes no scrap metal collection or rate, so confirm the price and the preparation the recycler expects before delivering the load.
Arrange it
Ask a local scrap metal recycler what it takes and when it is open, then deliver the material directly.

Only beverage and food cans belong in the home recycling container, so a larger metal item has to go to the recycler rather than the curb.

Take plastic bags and film to a retail store

A household with plastic grocery bags, wraps or films that cannot go in the recycling container.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The City names local retail stores that collect plastic grocery bags for recycling at no charge.
Arrange it
Sort the film out of the recycling container and take it to a local retail store that collects it, and check the City's listing for the drop-off options it names for clean film.

Plastic bags, wraps and films are refused in the curbside recycling container because they damage the sorting equipment, and a bagged load of recycling ends up at the landfill, so the film has to be separated before anything goes out.

Take glass bottles to a drop-off location

A household with glass bottles to recycle.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The City tells residents to recycle glass bottles by taking them to a drop-off location near them and publishes a glass drop-off listing.
Arrange it
Rinse the bottles and take them to a drop-off location rather than putting them in the curbside recycling container.

Glass is not part of the curbside recycling preparation the City publishes, so the bottles have to be carried to a drop-off point.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Tooele means the county disposal facility and the private drop-off points the City names. Construction and demolition waste, tires, piles of brick, broken concrete, dirt and business waste are all refused at the curb, and the City points those loads to the Tooele County Solid Waste Disposal Facility on 435.843.4785, which also takes green waste for a published per load charge between bulky waste days. Household hazardous waste such as paint, oil, solvents, bug spray, weed killer, batteries, old car parts and fertilizers is refused as well, and the separate information line for it is 435.277.2300. Curbside recycling takes cardboard, paper, bottles and jugs and food and beverage cans, while glass bottles are carried to a drop-off location, plastic bags and film go back to retail stores that collect them, and any metal item that is not a food or beverage can goes to a local scrap metal recycler. Packing foam that is not peanuts can also be taken to the foam drop-off points the City lists. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Cardboard pickup, from choosing your item to pickup day in Tooele.

How much does cardboard pickup cost?

One empty box is $59 first and $5 additional. A bundle of 10 flattened boxes is $79 first and $20 additional. Small, medium and large compacted bales have separate weight-based choices shown above.

What are the cardboard bale weight limits?

Small is 50–150 lb, medium is 151–300 lb and large is 301–500 lb. Each bale must stay securely bound and be ready at an accessible loading dock. Contact our team about unknown weights, larger bales or a location without dock access.

Can the boxes still have things inside?

Empty-cardboard pricing covers the cardboard itself. Use Filled household box for boxed household contents. Remove plastic, foam and other packing materials from empty boxes before collection.

Can I put cardboard in my regular recycling instead?

Check your local provider’s cardboard rules, including flattening, container limits and collection days. EPA recommends keeping paper products clean and dry. Dropcurb provides a separately booked pickup; a specific recycling facility or recycling outcome is not guaranteed by this booking.

Can I arrange same-day pickup?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Checkout shows the available dates for your address. Your booking is for a pickup day, rather than an exact arrival window. We send updates and photos after collection.

Where should I put my items?

Use an accessible outdoor spot you are allowed to use, and follow the instructions in your confirmation. Keep sidewalks, entrances and vehicle access clear. You arrange any indoor carrying. For a loading dock or a short building access window, confirm the setup with our team before booking.

What can go in a Tooele recycling container?

Cardboard boxes, office paper, junk mail and magazines, plastic bottles and jugs, and food and beverage cans. Keep the material clean, remove any plastic film from cardboard or newspaper before recycling it, and keep plastic bags, wraps, films and all foam out, because only bottles and jugs are accepted in plastic.Official guidance

Can plastic bags go in Tooele recycling?

No. Plastic bags, wraps and films cannot go in the curbside recycling container because they bind up the sorting equipment, and bagged recyclables end up at the landfill. Some of that film can be taken to local retail stores that collect plastic grocery bags, and clean plastic film including bubble wrap has its own drop-off options that the City lists.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Tooele?

Ace Disposal collects garbage under contract with Tooele City, so pickup questions go to the operator on 435.882.7009, while problems with a City container go to the City on 435.843.2150 or utilities@tooelecity.gov. The City owns the container and assigns it to a residence by identification number, and the monthly fee is billed on the utility account.Official guidance
