Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Every Auburn residential WM garbage customer gets one free bulky item collection a year, scheduled in advance and collected on the regular service day, for up to four large items.
Furniture is named on the hauler's bulky item list, which covers a sofa couch with no sleeper sofas, a sectional sofa, a loveseat, a futon, recliners, a lounge chair, an ottoman, a dresser, a bookcase, a desk, an end table or nightstand as a set, a coffee table, a dining table and chairs as a set, a small entertainment center and a filing cabinet.
A mattress and box spring are on the hauler's bulky item furniture list, and the set counts as one item out of the four allowed each year. King County also recycles mattresses, futons and box springs at five transfer stations for a per item handling fee, and the new South County fact sheet lists mattresses among its recycling services.
The hauler's bulky appliance list covers a refrigerator or freezer that has been emptied, a stove, cook top or hood range, a clothes washer, a clothes dryer, a hot water heater, a dishwasher, a trash compactor, a window or floor air conditioner, a dehumidifier, a water cooler and a small furnace. King County does not accept major appliances for disposal except plastic dishwashers, and recycles them at five transfer stations.
Exercise and recreation equipment is named on the hauler's bulky item list, which covers a treadmill, a circuit trainer, a rowing machine, an exercise bike, an elliptical, a bicycle, a basketball hoop with the post separated from the base, and a metal swing set that is disassembled.

Call Waste Management on 253-939-9792 to schedule the pickup, which happens on the regular service day, and put out up to four large items. No single item may weigh more than three hundred pounds or need more than two people to lift, nothing may be longer than eight feet, nothing may hold liquids such as oils or fuel, and cords are taped or tied closed. Remodeling and building material, tires, hot tubs, propane tanks, batteries and hazardous material are all refused.
