Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Kent runs a free Spring and Fall Curbside Clean-Up for residential households inside city limits, with extra garbage and extra yard waste placed at the curb on the regular yard waste collection day. Each stream is limited to ten units, and tires, scrap metal, hazardous waste, appliances and furniture are not accepted.
Republic Services collects mattresses, furniture and other bulky items from the curb for a fee when the pickup is scheduled in advance with the hauler, and the 2026 residential rate sheet prices the on-call items by type, with white goods other than refrigerators, sofas and chairs and mattresses in one price group and refrigerators, freezers and console televisions in a higher one.
Furniture and sofas are refused at the free Spring and Fall Curbside Clean-Up, so they go on the on-call bulky item collection that Republic Services runs for a fee, which the 2026 residential rate sheet prices for sofas and chairs by the item.
A mattress and box spring go either on a Republic Services on-call bulky item pickup for a fee or to a free city recycling collection event, where the Saturday events accept mattresses and box springs but not futons. The free curbside clean-up refuses furniture, so it is not the route for a mattress.
A small appliance two feet by two feet by two feet or smaller and under thirty-five pounds goes on top of the recycling cart at no charge, a larger appliance goes on the Republic Services on-call bulky item pickup for a fee, and a Saturday recycling collection event takes appliances and CFC appliances free.
Exercise equipment is built mostly of steel, so the metal frame has a free scrap metal route at a Friday mini recycling event, and anything that will not go as scrap metal is a bulky item that Republic Services can collect from the curb for a fee.
The handoff matters
Garbage goes out every week and recycling alternates with yard and food waste every other week in the blue and green carts included in the rate. During the Spring and Fall Curbside Clean-Up, put up to ten units of extra garbage and ten units of yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on the regular yard waste day, in bags, in boxes three feet five inches on each side or in cans of thirty-two gallons or smaller, under sixty pounds each, with loose trash left out of the pile.
