Units holding refrigerant are refused there: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, heat pumps and water coolers go to a scrap metal or appliance dealer instead, and the county lists several of them.
City cost & eligibility
The county recycling area takes non refrigerant appliances at no charge from residents, while the dealers listed for refrigerant units set their own prices and Waste Management quotes the same appliance as a varying bulky item, so confirm which route fits before the appliance is moved.
When & how
Take a non refrigerant appliance to a county station between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. any day of the week, or call a refrigerant dealer and the hauler during business hours to arrange the other route.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, remove food and loose parts, and take the door off a refrigerator or freezer before anyone handles it. A dishwasher without a metal housing is charged as garbage at the regular rate, and any appliance that still holds refrigerant is refused at county facilities and at the household hazardous waste station.
The city of Everett does not run garbage, recycling or yard waste collection, so the route depends on the address. Rubatino Refuse Removal serves most of the city limits, including zip codes 98201, 98203, 98204 and part of 98208, on 425-259-0044. Waste Management serves south Everett, described as south of 112th Street SE, Eastmont and Silver Lake including the 75th Street overpass, on 1-800-592-9995. Snohomish County Solid Waste answers the rest on 425-388-3425.
Containers go to the street by 6 a.m. on collection day and come back in as soon as they are emptied. Carts are placed three feet apart and three feet from cars, trees, mailboxes and fences, with the wheels close to the curb and the lids opening toward the street. A 32 gallon unit lifted by hand is limited to 65 pounds and a larger cart lifted mechanically is limited to 180 pounds, and an extra bag or 32 gallon can that does not fit with the lid closed is charged separately.
Airport Road Recycling and Transfer Station at 10700 Minuteman Drive is inside Everett and opens seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Arrive at least 30 minutes before closing, unload your own vehicle, take brooms and shovels with you, and expect the load to be weighed. The recycling area is for residential customers only and it refuses yard and clean wood debris, which the county has not accepted at any facility since 2022.
Dangerous and moderate risk waste is refused at every county facility, and so are electronics, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, heat pumps, liquid waste, asbestos and tires beyond five per customer per day in passenger car and pickup truck sizes. Household hazardous waste such as paint, solvents, gasoline, propane tanks in barbecue size, batteries and motor oil belongs at 3434 McDougall Avenue, which is free for households and open Wednesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

These are third party businesses rather than a county service, a unit that still holds refrigerant cannot be left at a county station or the household hazardous waste station, and the door should come off before the unit is handed over.
