Televisions, computers, laptops, monitors, tablets, e-readers and portable DVD players are recycled free through E-Cycle Washington, and both the county transfer stations and the household hazardous waste station refuse electronics. In the Waste Management service area a console television can also be booked as a bulky item.

When & how
Find the nearest E-Cycle site and check its hours before the trip, keep the device out of the garbage and recycling carts, and call ahead when the screen is cracked or the case is broken.
Get it ready
Bring the device whole where you can, take the remote and cables with it, and bag any loose or leaking battery separately. A television is never collected in the recycling cart, and a shattered screen may be refused at the counter.
The city of Everett does not run garbage, recycling or yard waste collection, so the route depends on the address. Rubatino Refuse Removal serves most of the city limits, including zip codes 98201, 98203, 98204 and part of 98208, on 425-259-0044. Waste Management serves south Everett, described as south of 112th Street SE, Eastmont and Silver Lake including the 75th Street overpass, on 1-800-592-9995. Snohomish County Solid Waste answers the rest on 425-388-3425.
Containers go to the street by 6 a.m. on collection day and come back in as soon as they are emptied. Carts are placed three feet apart and three feet from cars, trees, mailboxes and fences, with the wheels close to the curb and the lids opening toward the street. A 32 gallon unit lifted by hand is limited to 65 pounds and a larger cart lifted mechanically is limited to 180 pounds, and an extra bag or 32 gallon can that does not fit with the lid closed is charged separately.
Dangerous and moderate risk waste is refused at every county facility, and so are electronics, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, heat pumps, liquid waste, asbestos and tires beyond five per customer per day in passenger car and pickup truck sizes. Household hazardous waste such as paint, solvents, gasoline, propane tanks in barbecue size, batteries and motor oil belongs at 3434 McDougall Avenue, which is free for households and open Wednesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Snohomish County runs a household hazardous waste station at 3434 McDougall Avenue in Everett that is free for households and open Wednesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on 425-388-6050, and it takes oil based paint, latex paint, solvents, gasoline, propane tanks in barbecue size or smaller, batteries, motor oil, oil filters, fluorescent tubes, pesticides, mercury thermometers and sharps from residents.
