Finish clearing the space
The last few things still deserve a pickup.
You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Furniture is on the accepted list for the city's free Community Cleanup weekends at the Lakewood Transfer Station, and outside those weekends it goes to a transfer station.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Lakewood residents only at the free Community Cleanup, with a utility bill or identification as proof of residence; the cleanup runs twice a year, and outside those weekends furniture has to be self hauled to a transfer station where a fee applies.
When & how
Take the furniture to the Lakewood Transfer Station at 3869 94th St SW during a Community Cleanup weekend, which in 2026 runs Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., or self haul it to a transfer station at another time.
Get it ready
Bag every loose item, because loose items are refused at the cleanup, expect a five minute unload limit, be ready to back up a steep ramp and unload without help, wear proper footwear, and keep mattresses, electronics, paint, yard waste, construction waste, concrete and propane tanks out of the load because the cleanup refuses them.
Mattresses are specifically refused at the Community Cleanup, so bedding has to be self hauled to a transfer station rather than taken to the free weekend.
City cost & eligibility
The cleanup page puts mattresses on the not accepted list and the city publishes no mattress rate for the transfer stations it lists, so confirm the gate fee and the accepted sizes with the station before hauling bedding across the county.
When & how
Do not take a mattress to a Community Cleanup. Take it instead to a transfer station such as the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street, which is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the bedding dry and out of the free cleanup load, take the frame and headboard off because they are separate pieces, and call the station ahead to confirm the fee and any size or condition limits.
Appliances are accepted at the Community Cleanup while refrigerators are excluded, so a refrigerator needs a transfer station instead.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Lakewood residents at the free Community Cleanup for appliances generally, with identification or a utility bill, but the city excludes refrigerators from the cleanup list so a refrigerator has to be self hauled to a transfer station instead.
When & how
Take a stove, washer or similar appliance to the Lakewood Transfer Station on a Community Cleanup weekend, and take a refrigerator to a transfer station such as the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street on any day between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, secure or remove the doors, bag loose parts because loose items are refused at the cleanup, and note that refrigerators are excluded from the free weekend even though other appliances are accepted.
Electronics are refused at the Community Cleanup, and the city points residents to the Pierce County recycling menu for televisions and other unusual items.
City cost & eligibility
The cleanup refuses electronics and the city names the Pierce County recycling menu rather than publishing a television fee, so confirm the drop-off location, the accepted screens and any charge with the county or the station before the set is moved.
When & how
Do not take a television to a Community Cleanup. Look up the television on the Pierce County recycling menu the city links, or ask a transfer station, before choosing a drop-off.
Get it ready
Keep the screen whole and dry, wipe anything that stores data, keep it out of the recycling cart and out of the free cleanup load, and confirm the screen type and fee before travelling.
The city refuses electronics at the Community Cleanup and routes them through the Pierce County recycling menu instead.
City cost & eligibility
No Lakewood page publishes an electronics fee, and the county menu the city links is the authority on where devices go, so confirm the drop-off point and any charge with the county before a trip.
When & how
Look up the device on the Pierce County recycling menu, or ask a transfer station about its electronics drop-off, rather than taking it to a Community Cleanup weekend.
Get it ready
Wipe stored data from computers and drives, keep power supplies and cables with the device, keep electronics out of the recycling cart, and keep them out of any cleanup load because the free weekend refuses them.
Construction waste is refused at the Community Cleanup, so a project load has to go to a transfer station, and lumber over eight feet is refused even there on cleanup terms.
City cost & eligibility
Neither the cleanup page nor the transfer station pages retained for Lakewood publish a construction debris rate, and the cleanup refuses construction waste and lumber longer than 8 feet, so confirm the station, the accepted material and the fee before loading a project.
When & how
Do not take construction material to a Community Cleanup. Take it to a transfer station such as the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center, which takes self hauled loads seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep construction waste, concrete and loose material out of the cleanup load, cut nothing to hide the rules because both construction waste and concrete are refused outright, and call the station first to confirm what it will take and what it charges.
Exercise equipment is not named on the Lakewood cleanup or station lists, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed before it is loaded.
City cost & eligibility
No retained Lakewood page names exercise equipment and no fee is published, so confirm with the city at (253) 983-7705 or with the station whether a machine is treated as furniture or as material the transfer station charges by weight.
When & how
Call ahead before a Community Cleanup weekend or a transfer station trip, then follow whichever route the city or the station confirms.
Get it ready
Strip the console and any loose weights so the frame is as light as possible, fold the deck where the manufacturer allows it, bag any loose parts because loose items are refused at the cleanup, and keep the machine out of the recycling cart.
The city's bulky route is two free Community Cleanup weekends a year at the Lakewood Transfer Station, with everything else self hauled to a station.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Lakewood residents only at the free Community Cleanup, with a utility bill or identification as proof of residence; the cleanup runs once in the spring and once in the fall, and material outside its accepted list has to be self hauled to a transfer station where a fee applies.
When & how
Take the load to the Lakewood Transfer Station at 3869 94th St SW on a Community Cleanup weekend, which in 2026 runs Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. with the last vehicle admitted then, or use a transfer station at another time.
Get it ready
Bag every loose item, keep within the five minute unload limit, arrive in a vehicle under 7 feet tall with no box van and a trailer no larger than 4 feet by 8 feet, expect to unload alone up a steep ramp, and leave mattresses, electronics, paint, yard waste, construction waste, concrete, auto parts, propane tanks and commercial waste out of the load.
The city contracts Waste Connections, trading locally as LeMay Pierce County Refuse, for garbage services, and the local office is at 4111 192nd Street East in Tacoma on (253) 875-5053. Residential garbage, recycling and food and yard waste collection all run through that contract, with recycling available wherever garbage pickup is offered, and questions about carts, service days and missed collections go to the hauler rather than to the city.
Two free cleanup weekends a year carry the bulky load
The city runs a Community Cleanup once in the spring and once in the fall at the Lakewood Transfer Station, 3869 94th St SW, and the fall 2026 event runs Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. with the last vehicle admitted at 1:45 p.m. It is free for Lakewood residents who show a utility bill or identification, and the accepted list covers tires off their rims, bicycles, furniture, grills, appliances, recyclables and bagged garbage. The rules are strict: a five minute unload limit, no box vans or vehicles taller than 7 feet, trailers no larger than 4 feet by 8 feet, no unsafe loads, proper footwear, self unloading up a steep ramp and everything loose bagged. Mattresses, electronics, paint and hazardous material, yard waste, construction waste, lumber over 8 feet, concrete, auto parts, propane tanks, donations and commercial waste are all refused.
Outside the cleanup weekends the city's rule is that large items, yard waste, paint, electronics and hazardous material have to be taken to a transfer station or a special waste location. The stations it names are the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street in Tacoma, Thurston Waste and Recovery at 2420 Hogum Bay Road NE in Lacey, and the Hidden Valley Transfer Station at 17925 Meridian Street E in Puyallup. The Tacoma centre takes self hauled garbage, recycling, yard waste and hazardous waste, with the transfer centre and recycle centre open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and a household hazardous waste facility open Friday to Monday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed Tuesday to Thursday. Paint goes to PaintCare drop-offs, glass goes to the county drop-off points rather than the recycling cart, and the Pierce County recycling menu covers televisions, chemicals, needles and medications.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
City of Lakewood with Waste Connections and LeMay Pierce County Refuse
Use a free Community Cleanup weekend
A Lakewood household with bagged garbage, furniture, a grill, a bicycle, an appliance or tires off their rims.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Free for Lakewood residents only, with a utility bill or identification required to prove residence, one cleanup in the spring and one in the fall.
Arrange it
Take the load to the Lakewood Transfer Station at 3869 94th St SW during a cleanup weekend, which in 2026 runs Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. with the last vehicle admitted at 1:45 p.m.
Residents only, five minutes to unload, no box vans or vehicles over 7 feet tall, trailers no larger than 4 feet by 8 feet, no loose items, and mattresses, electronics, paint, yard waste, construction waste, lumber over 8 feet, concrete, auto parts, propane tanks, donations and commercial waste all refused.
City of Lakewood with Waste Connections and LeMay Pierce County Refuse
Self haul to a transfer station
A household with a mattress, construction debris, yard waste or any load the cleanup weekends refuse.
Cost & conditions
The city lists the stations but publishes no gate fee for Lakewood customers, and the Tacoma utility sets its rates by container size for its own customers, so confirm the charge for the load at the station before travelling.
Arrange it
Take the load to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street, open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or to the Hidden Valley station in Puyallup or Thurston Waste and Recovery in Lacey.
A self haul route rather than a kerbside collection, with fees that are not published on the retained pages, and the Tacoma household hazardous waste facility is closed Tuesday to Thursday.
City of Lakewood with Waste Connections and LeMay Pierce County Refuse
Use the county specialty recycling routes
A household with a television, chemicals, needles, medications, paint or glass.
Cost & conditions
The city links the county menu, PaintCare and the glass drop-off tool rather than publishing their terms, so confirm the accepted items and any charge with the county or the programme before a trip.
Arrange it
Search the Pierce County recycling menu for the item, use the PaintCare drop-off locator for paint, and use the county glass tool to find a nearby glass drop-off, keeping glass out of the regular recycling cart.
These are county and product stewardship programmes rather than city services, and the city warns that paint should not go in the regular garbage and glass should not go in regular recycling.
A Lakewood household arranging weekly garbage, recycling or food and yard waste collection.
Cost & conditions
The city and the hauler publish the service lines but not the residential rates on the retained pages, so confirm the monthly charge with Waste Connections at (253) 875-5053 when the account is set up.
Arrange it
Contact Waste Connections at (253) 875-5053 or through the LeMay Pierce County Refuse site to start or change service, and use the hauler's app or pickup schedule for collection days.
The contract covers weekly garbage, recycling and food or yard waste rather than bulky items, and bulky material still has to use a cleanup weekend or a transfer station.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Lakewood.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Lakewood?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
How does a couch leave a Lakewood home?+
Lakewood has no kerbside bulky pickup, so the free route is a Community Cleanup weekend at the Lakewood Transfer Station on 94th St SW, where furniture is on the accepted list and a utility bill or identification proves residency. Outside those two weekends a year the city's guidance is to take large items to a transfer station or special waste location, so a couch then travels to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center, the Hidden Valley station or Thurston Waste and Recovery.Official guidance
Will Lakewood take a mattress at the cleanup?+
No. Mattresses are named on the not accepted list for the free Community Cleanup weekend, alongside electronics, paint, yard waste, construction waste, concrete, propane tanks and loose items. Bedding has to be self hauled to a transfer station instead, such as the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street, which takes self hauled loads seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the city publishes no mattress rate, so confirm the fee at the gate.Official guidance
Will the Lakewood cleanup take a refrigerator?+
No. Appliances are on the accepted list for the free Community Cleanup weekend, but the city's own refuse page excludes refrigerators from that list, so a refrigerator has to be self hauled to a transfer station. The Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street takes self hauled loads seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and also runs a household hazardous waste facility from Friday to Monday, with no published appliance rate, so confirm the fee first.Official guidance
Where does a television go in Lakewood?+
Not to the Community Cleanup, which lists electronics among the items it will not accept. The city's refuse page sends televisions and other unusual items to the Pierce County recycling menu, and its general rule is that large items, electronics and hazardous material be taken to a transfer station or special waste location. The county publishes the drop-off details rather than the city, so confirm the location and any charge before the set leaves the house.Official guidance
Where do Lakewood computers and electronics go?+
Not to the free Community Cleanup, which refuses electronics. The city's refuse page lists the Pierce County recycling menu for televisions, chemicals, needles, medications and other unusual items, and its general direction is that large items, electronics and hazardous material go to a transfer station or special waste location. Confirm the current drop-off and any charge on the county menu before taking a device anywhere.Official guidance
Will Lakewood take construction debris?+
Not at the Community Cleanup, which refuses construction waste, concrete, lumber longer than 8 feet and loose items. The city's general direction is that large items go to a transfer station or special waste location, so a project load travels to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street, open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or another listed station, and the fee has to be confirmed because no rate is published on the retained pages.Official guidance
Will Lakewood take a treadmill?+
No Lakewood page names exercise equipment, so the item has to be confirmed. The Community Cleanup accepts furniture, grills, bicycles and appliances but publishes a specific accepted list rather than a general bulky allowance, and the city otherwise sends large items to a transfer station. Call the city or the station before loading the machine.Official guidance
How does a Lakewood cleanout leave the house?+
Through one of the two free Community Cleanup weekends a year at the Lakewood Transfer Station on 94th St SW, where residents with a utility bill or identification can bring bagged garbage, furniture, grills, bicycles, appliances, tires off their rims and recyclables. The rules are strict: a five minute unload limit, no box vans or vehicles over 7 feet tall, trailers no bigger than 4 feet by 8 feet, no loose items, and no mattresses, electronics, paint, yard waste, construction waste, concrete, auto parts, propane tanks or commercial waste. Everything else goes to a transfer station, and the city lists the Tacoma, Hidden Valley and Thurston stations.Official guidance
Who collects Lakewood garbage and recycling?+
Waste Connections, trading locally as LeMay Pierce County Refuse, collects under the city contract, with the local office at 4111 192nd Street East in Tacoma on (253) 875-5053. The residential service covers weekly garbage plus recycling and food or yard waste collection, with recycling available wherever garbage pickup is offered, and the contract does not include a kerbside bulky item collection, which is why the city runs the free cleanup weekends instead.Official guidance
What are the rules for the Lakewood Community Cleanup?+
The cleanup runs twice a year at the Lakewood Transfer Station on 94th St SW, and the fall 2026 event is Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. with the last vehicle admitted at that time. It is free for Lakewood residents who show a utility bill or identification. Participants get five minutes to unload, must come in a vehicle under 7 feet tall with no box van and a trailer no larger than 4 feet by 8 feet, unload without help up a steep ramp, wear proper footwear and bag every loose item, and unsafe vehicles may be cited.Official guidance
What will the Lakewood cleanup not take?+
Commercial waste, loose items, paint and hazardous materials, yard waste, construction waste, lumber longer than 8 feet, concrete, auto parts, explosive materials, propane tanks, electronics, donations and mattresses are all refused, and the city's own refuse page adds that refrigerators are excluded from the appliances it accepts. That leaves the transfer stations for mattresses, construction material, electronics and refrigerators, and the county specialty routes for paint, glass, chemicals and medications.Official guidance
Where do Lakewood large items go outside the cleanup?+
The city says large items, yard waste, paint, electronics and hazardous materials must be brought to a transfer station or special waste location, and it lists the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center at 3510 S Mullen Street, Thurston Waste and Recovery at 2420 Hogum Bay Road NE in Lacey and the Hidden Valley Transfer Station at 17925 Meridian Street E in Puyallup. The Tacoma centre takes self hauled garbage, recycling, yard waste and hazardous waste, with the transfer centre and recycle centre open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the household hazardous waste facility open Friday to Monday. No per load fee is published on the retained pages, so confirm the charge first.Official guidance
