- Building and demolition material is limited to ten bags, cans or bundles at forty pounds each, paneling, plywood, drywall and plasterboard must be cut into sections no larger than four feet by four feet, lumber, PVC and metal piping must be in three foot lengths with nails pulled out or bent over, windows no larger than four feet square must have an X taped across both sides, and carpet, padding and rugs must be rolled into three foot sections and tied or taped. Concrete, stone, brick, asphalt and masonry, sand, dirt and clay, glass patio doors and tanks of any type unless cut in half are not collected.

Garbage goes in the brown automated cart in plastic bags with the lid closed and recycling goes loose in the blue cart, and neither belongs outside the cart, because anything set out beside a cart is not collected outside the weeks the department publicises. Carts and recyclables go to the curb no earlier than 6:30 p.m. the evening before the collection day and no later than 6 a.m. on the day, clear of trees, telephone poles and other obstacles and reachable from the street, and empty or tagged carts come back in by 8 a.m. the day after collection. A cart with garbage and recycling mixed together is not collected, recycling runs every other week on the same day as the garbage on route A or route B, and a household that believes it was missed should wait until after 1 p.m. on the collection day before calling 262-653-4050.

A bulky pick-up is limited to five cubic yards or thirty bags in an area no larger than fifteen feet by three feet by three feet, every bag, can or bundle stays under forty pounds, each item has to fit through a four foot by four foot truck opening and be liftable waist high by two people, and nothing may be left loose. Carpet, padding and rugs are rolled into three foot sections, windows no larger than four feet square have an X taped across both sides, board material is cut to four feet by four feet or smaller, and lumber, PVC and metal piping is cut to three foot lengths with nails pulled or bent over. The pile sits in its own place away from the carts, trees, parked cars, hydrants and poles, in winter cleared of ice and snow, and anything left over comes off the curb by 8 a.m. the day after, with the City's four free pick-ups a year turning into a published charge for each additional one.

The City does not collect yard waste or recycling in a bulky pile, hazardous or liquid waste such as paint, tanks of any type such as propane, oxygen or gas unless they are cut in half, pianos or organs, cast iron bath tubs, glass patio doors, camper tops or truck caps, boats, concrete, stone, brick, asphalt and masonry, sand, dirt and clay, or any item that does not meet the preparation rules. A pile with recyclables mixed into it may be tagged and left behind until the recyclables are removed.
