Appliances are part of the city's bulky item definition, which lists refrigerators with and without refrigerant along with ranges, washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers, plumbing fixtures and small household appliances under the white goods heading. They leave on the same free Athens bulky pickup, subject to the weight and size ceilings.

Get it ready
Keep the unit clear of the carts and bins, and confirm at booking if the piece is close to the 60 pound or four foot limits so the hauler brings the right equipment.
Barrels go out the night before the service day or by 6 a.m. on the day itself. Athens observes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and a holiday creates a one-day delay in collection, while a holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday does not delay service. Homes of four units or fewer use three carts, black for trash, blue for recycling and green for organics, and food waste in the green cart has to be in clear or transparent bags.
A bulky pickup has to be booked before anything goes out
Bulky items are collected free by Athens Services, but every request has to be scheduled at least 24 hours before the collection day, and the city recommends no more than five items in one request even though the number of requests is not capped. At a multi-family property the items go in the designated trash area without blocking the bins, and every piece has to stay within the city's limits of 60 pounds, four feet wide and eight feet long.
