The Transfer Station is residential only and staff do not unload
Everything brought to the Meriden Transfer Station has to come from the residential user, commercial and industrial waste is not accepted, and contractors are not granted access. Department of Public Works personnel are not permitted to help unload, so residents bring their own help, and proof of residency is required. Fees are charged per vehicle per visit and the station takes cash or a check payable to the City of Meriden.
Paint, chemicals, propane and grease have named destinations
Paint goes to Connecticut PaintCare drop-off counters, including named retailers in Cheshire, Southington and Wallingford. Other hazardous waste goes to the Regional Water Authority's New Haven program, which runs seasonally from May to October. Gas, oil and antifreeze go to Tradebe on Gracey Avenue in Meriden, propane tanks go to a hardware store in Cheshire, household garbage and recycling stay with the private curbside hauler, and larger brush goes to a named Southington yard.
