New Smyrna Beach collects household waste twice a week and yard waste every Wednesday, and the second household day doubles as a bulk day when furniture, appliances and similar items go out with the tote. Collection moves to a new hauler on October 1, 2026, so the citywide schedule and cart rules change on that date.

Small do-it-yourself amounts of wood, concrete block, drywall, plaster board and carpet are collected when they are containerized, and larger amounts need a special pickup or a roll-off container.

Put small amounts in garbage cans or bags. Keep heavy pieces within the weight limit and do not leave loose piles, concrete chunks or drywall sheets at the curb.
Yard waste is collected citywide every Wednesday, with small debris in cans or bags and bulky vegetation cut to the published limits.

No charge. City solid waste customers with residentially generated yard waste within the published size limits. Material outside those limits needs additional fees paid before pickup, and contractor or land clearing material is the contractor's responsibility.

Set yard waste out for the Wednesday route. Larger hurricane preparation piles follow the zone schedule the City publishes for each day of the week.
Get it ready
Put grass clippings, leaves and small debris in cans or bags. Keep palm fronds, shrubs, tree brush and branches under six inches in diameter and under four feet long. Material from land clearing, construction preparation or a hired contractor has to be removed by the contractor.
Appliances and other metal household items are collected through the bulky item days, but the City does not publish a separate scrap metal route.
City cost & eligibility
The City lists appliances and furniture for curbside collection and keeps electronics and appliances out of the recycling containers, but it publishes no loose scrap metal rate. Confirm with the Solid Waste Compliance Officer whether the load can go out with collection before moving it.
When & how
Call the Solid Waste Compliance Officer at 386-424-2207 to confirm the route for a metal load that is not part of an appliance pickup.

Keep metal separate from household waste and yard waste, and drain any oil, fuel or refrigerant before the item is set out.
Garbage cans and bags must not exceed 50 pounds or 32 gallons and may go to the curb no earlier than sunset the day before pickup. Routes run between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

The City does not operate a public drop-off for bulky items, yard waste, construction debris or scrap metal, so those materials go out on the collection routes or through a special pickup, and large renovation volumes move to an approved commercial roll-off vendor. Two county routes sit outside the city program: the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange takes household hazardous waste and a limited number of tires each year, and the City points paint and chemical questions to the county landfill and its paint exchange. Volusia County pages could not be opened from this environment, so confirm the county hours, fees and accepted material directly before loading. Can I book a pickup for today?+
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Your booking is for a pickup day, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.
Do my items need to be outside when I book?+
You can book while your items are still inside. Arrange any indoor carrying and have everything outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We load and haul it away from there. Contact us before booking if your property has restricted access.
Can a refrigerator go out with the regular pickup?+
