Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Furniture is on the list of items the town states it will collect curbside as bulky waste, so a couch, chair, table or similar piece goes out with the weekly bulky pile. Carpet and carpet pads are on the same list and should be laid parallel to the curb.

No charge. Furniture collected as bulky waste is included in the monthly garbage charge on the utility bill for a residence inside the town.

Get it ready
Set the piece loose at the curb in the organized pile, on the same timing as the rest of the bulky waste, and keep the total under 500 pounds. Boards and similar material need the nails removed or the points turned down, and a load that is bigger than a household pile has to go to a commercial container instead.
Bulky waste goes loose at the curb as one organized pile, out after 6 p.m. the day before or before 6 a.m. on the collection day, and never over 500 pounds. Lay material lengthwise on sloped right of ways, keep it out of boxes and non-Town carts, and call the town when glass or mirrors are involved because a hand pickup may be scheduled.

No charge. Included in the monthly garbage charge on the Town utility bill, along with garbage, recycling, brush, landscape waste and fall leaves.

Put the items loose at the curb in one organized pile on your regular garbage collection day, using the same curbside timing as the carts, and call 309-454-9571 with questions between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Nothing over 500 pounds or from contractor work is accepted, electronics, landscape waste and brush travel on their own routes, and bulky waste is not collected on holidays when town offices are closed.

Appliances have to be in working condition, and each organization sets its own pickup and drop-off conditions, so confirm before loading a vehicle.
Self-hauling in Normal runs through the town's own Public Works yard. The self-service electronics recycling site at 1301 Warriner Street, past the main Public Works building and marked with yellow signs, takes televisions, computers, monitors, printers, scanners, receivers, video game consoles, phones and cables free from McLean County residents, and it refuses appliances, microwaves, dehumidifiers, alkaline batteries and light bulbs. Other household material has its own route: alkaline batteries go in the garbage cart or to a participating retailer, motor oil, antifreeze and used cooking oil go to Team Automotive on South Adelaide Street, compact fluorescent bulbs and tubes go to Echo Electric in Bloomington, and paint and household hazardous waste go through the Ecology Action Center and the PaintCare programme. Can I get same-day furniture pickup in Normal?+
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup and choose from the dates shown at checkout. Arrange to have the furniture outside according to your confirmation. You receive a text when your hauler is on the way and photos after collection.
Will you remove furniture from inside my apartment?+

Yes. Add each piece and its quantity to one booking. A dining table and four chairs are five items; a separate mirror is not included with a dresser. You can mix eligible items from different rooms and review their combined total before paying.
Do I need to take furniture apart before pickup?+
You arrange any disassembly needed to move the furniture out of your home and into an accessible outdoor pickup spot. Dropcurb does not provide indoor disassembly or carrying. If you are unsure which catalog choice matches a dismantled or unusual piece, send a photo and ask before booking.
Will the town take a couch from the curb?+
Yes. Furniture is on the list of items Normal states it will collect curbside as bulky waste, so a couch goes out loose at the curb in one organized pile on your regular garbage day at no separate charge.
