Normal runs its own automated cart collection, so garbage and recycling go out in Town-issued carts once a week and the monthly garbage charge also covers bulky waste, brush, landscape waste and fall leaves. Bulky waste is the route for furniture, mattresses, appliances and other large items, collected on the regular garbage day as one organized pile under 500 pounds, while televisions and other electronics are kept off the curb by state law and go to the town's self-service recycling drop-off on Warriner Street.
Normal collects household garbage weekly in a Town-issued wheeled cart, and the monthly garbage charge on the utility bill covers the whole curbside program rather than a single item. The charge is set for the cart program, so the household does not buy collection separately.

Leave the cart three feet from the recycling cart and from other objects so the truck arms can reach it, and return it to the garage or behind the front line of the house within 12 hours.
