Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions, computers and electronic waste

Special rules apply

Electronics are not a cart item, and the district handles them through a separate computer component and television recycling programme with drop-off sites across Lake County rather than through the monthly hazardous waste events.

City cost & eligibility
The district names the electronics programme and its drop-off sites but publishes the locations and any charges on its programme page rather than the hazardous waste page, so confirm the site, the accepted devices and the cost before dropping a television or computer off.
When & how
Check the district's computer component and TV recycling page for the nearest drop-off point and its opening days, because the monthly hazardous waste events run on published dates and are a different service.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep electronics out of the city cart because the carts are for kitchen garbage, and note that the monthly county events accept items such as batteries, oil based paint, solvents and propane rather than household electronic devices.

County collections cover the chemicals

Lake County Solid Waste Management holds household hazardous waste collections across the county monthly from March through October, restricted to Lake County residents, with the Hammond event at Hammond Public Works, 601 Conkey St., on Saturday September 12 from 9am to 2pm. Accepted material includes antifreeze, automotive fluids, household batteries, fuels, oil based paint, pesticides, propane tanks, solvents, sharps in a rigid container and sealed thermometers, while latex paint, asbestos, acetylene tanks and auto batteries are refused, and paper shredding is offered with a four bag limit.

City of Hammond Sanitation Department and the Lake County Solid Waste Management District

Use the district's electronics and appliance programmes

A household with a television, computer, fridge, microwave, washer, latex paint or tires.

Cost & conditions
The district names each programme but publishes the drop-off locations and any charges on its own programme pages, so confirm the site and the cost before loading a vehicle.
Arrange it
Follow the district's links for computer component and TV recycling, appliance recycling, latex paint recycling and tire recycling to find the nearest drop-off point.

Each programme has its own accepted items and locations, the monthly hazardous waste events are a separate service, and the district restricts its services to Lake County residents.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Hammond collects through its own Sanitation Department at 601 Conkey Street rather than a private hauler. The cart takes kitchen garbage only, bagged in plastic, under 50 pounds, out the night before collection, and the city sells additional carts and replacement carts, with the current prices and the police case number rule confirmed at the sanitation office. Yard waste goes out in 30 gallon biodegradable paper bags on the same day between the first week of April and the last week of November and must contain only leaves, grass, plants or twigs. Everything else is banned from the cart, and the city's list reads like a warning: cement, wood, dirt, sod, branches, roofing shingles, gasoline, oil, brake fluid, ammonia, bleach, pool chemicals, oil based paint and miscellaneous junk. Two routes take that material. The Street Department can arrange a special pick-up by phone at 853-6431 for some banned items, and Lake County Solid Waste Management runs household hazardous waste collections across the county monthly from March through October for Lake County residents, including the Hammond collection at 601 Conkey St. on Saturday September 12 from 9am to 2pm, where antifreeze, fuels, batteries, oil based paint, propane, solvents and sharps are accepted while latex paint, asbestos and auto batteries are refused. Electronics and appliances move through separate district programmes for televisions, computers, fridges, microwaves and washers, and construction material has no public route at all, so renovation loads are arranged privately and businesses or buildings with three or more apartments must hold their own dumpster contract. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Hammond.

How much does TV removal cost in Hammond?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Hammond?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where can a Hammond household take a television?

Lake County Solid Waste Management runs a separate computer component and television recycling programme that lists drop-off sites across the county, and the city directs banned material away from the carts entirely. Check the district's electronics programme for the nearest location and any charge, and note that the monthly household hazardous waste collections from March through October are a different service, with the Hammond event at 601 Conkey St. running on September 12 from 9am to 2pm.Official guidance

Where do Hammond chemicals and electronics go?

Chemicals go to a Lake County Solid Waste Management collection event, held monthly from March through October for Lake County residents, with the Hammond event at 601 Conkey St. on Saturday September 12 from 9am to 2pm. Electronics and appliances have their own district programmes for televisions, computers, fridges, microwaves and washers, with drop-off sites published separately, so check those pages before a trip.Official guidance
