When & how
Items go out by 7:30 a.m. on the scheduled Monday and may be placed at the curb from the Saturday before the collection week. Area A starts the first Monday of the month, Area B the second, Area C the third and Area D the fourth, and the crew takes the whole week for its area without returning to a street it has passed.
Get it ready
Place the pile in the outlawn between the curb and the sidewalk rather than in the street, keep items under eight feet long, separate brush from household items with a foot of space between the piles, and keep the pile clear of poles, trees, hydrants, mailboxes and fiber boxes. Masonry, car batteries and car parts, hazardous material, dead animals, loose soil and sod, brush in one continuous pile and more than four tires a year are all refused.

The landfill takes Midland County waste and three free cubic yards a month
The city landfill on East Ashman Street accepts only waste generated in Midland County, and each month a Midland County household may bring up to three cubic yards from its own home at no charge, with the residential drop-off pad a few yards from the gatehouse so loads do not have to be lifted into a high dumpster. Residency has to be shown with a driver's licence, Michigan ID or property tax assessment, the attendant estimates the load and charges for the excess by material type, and businesses are not eligible for the free allowance. Published rates include tires, appliances, demolition material and yard waste by the cubic yard.
