Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, monitors, computers and other electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are illegal in the trash and are not collected in the recycling cart. The county station takes televisions, computer monitors and laptops by the piece and most other electronics at no charge with a limit of five of the same type a year. The city drop-off day charges a lower flat price for computers, monitors and televisions and takes other electronics free, and Bridging and Repowered are the reuse and certified recycling alternatives.

City cost & eligibility
$10 each television, computer monitor or laptop accepted at the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station. Hennepin County households, with proof of residency. Other electronics are accepted there at no charge, with a limit of five of the same type per household each year, and the county also takes cords, string lights and media such as discs, flash drives and game cartridges from households.
When & how
The county station opens Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and is closed Sunday, Monday and the holidays the county lists. The city drop-off day takes computers, monitors and televisions on its posted Saturday with other electronics free, and Repowered opens its recycling drop-off Monday through Friday and on the second and fourth Saturday.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data off a computer, phone, tablet or drive before handover. Keep electronics out of the garbage and recycling carts, where batteries, cords, cables and tanglers are refused, and take batteries to the county station, which asks for clear tape on the terminals or a clear plastic bag. The free county allowance covers five items of the same type a year.

Garbage and recycling at the curb by 6:30 am

The cart goes to the curb by 6:30 am on the service day and is picked up no later than 6:30 pm. Recycling runs every other week and garbage runs on the schedule your licensed hauler keeps. Containers may be set out after 3 pm the day before and have to be back inside or behind an approved screen by the end of the pickup day, because containers stored in public view are a code violation.

City of Brooklyn Park garbage page with the five licensed haulers and their addresses and phone numbers Ace Solid Waste, Curbside Waste, Republic Services, Walters and Waste Management, the requirement that every resident and business set up its own hauler service, the 6:30 a.m. cart set-out time, the container storage and screening rules, the bagged and covered garbage requirement, the biodegradable yard waste bag note, the burning prohibition, the junk pile prohibition, and the recycling manager and code enforcement contactsCity of Brooklyn Park recycling page with single-sort cart rules and the accepted plastics 1, 2 and 5, paper, cardboard, cartons, glass and metal, loose loading with no plastic bags, the 32, 64 and 96 gallon cart sizes at no price difference, free walk-up service, the 6:30 a.m. set-out time, every-other-week collection, weekly apartment recycling, the six collection holidays and one day delay, the missed collection report to Recycling Services at 763-493-8006, the single contracted recycling company paid through the utility bill, and the list of other places to take material including the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station, Repowered, Bridging, the Maple Grove Yardwaste Site, the Waste Management Transfer Station in Maple Grove, the Anoka Recycling Disposal Center and the SKB Transfer Station

Bag the garbage and load the recycling cart loose

All garbage has to be wrapped or bagged and covered inside the container your licensed hauler supplies, and a container that is not large enough calls for a larger or second cart from that hauler rather than bags beside it. Recycling is single-sort and goes in loose, never in plastic bags, and a cart holding something the program does not take is not the place to hide a bulky item.

Electronics, appliances and hazardous waste never go in the trash

The city states it is illegal to put electronics, appliances and household hazardous waste in the trash, and none of it belongs in the curbside recycling cart. Those items go to the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station on Jefferson Highway, which takes county households with proof of residency, charges by the item for televisions, appliances, mattresses and tires, and keeps its own weekday hours.

City of Brooklyn Park electronics and hazardous materials page with the statement that putting electronics, appliances and household hazardous waste in the trash is illegal, the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway N, Brooklyn Park MN 55445, the Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. hours with Sunday and Monday closed and the listed holiday closures, the phone 612-348-3777, the note that electronics, appliances, mattresses and tires are accepted for a fee, and the consumer electronics, media, mercury and automotive waste listsHennepin County drop-off household hazardous waste and recycling page with the Hennepin County household eligibility and the hazardous waste counties served, the exclusion of businesses, rental properties and condominium, neighborhood and townhouse associations, the proof of residency requirement, the materials accepted for a charge covering tires at five dollars each with the 16 a load and 32 a year limits, televisions, computer monitors and laptops at ten dollars each, large appliances at fifteen dollars each with the full appliance list, and mattresses and box springs at twenty five dollars each item at the Brooklyn Park Transfer Station only, the no charge electronics list with a five of the same type a year limit, the household, lawn and garden, battery and sharps lists, the free recycling and organics rules with the five bag compostable requirement, the Free Product Center limits, and the materials not accepted including garbage, carpet, concrete or asphalt, construction materials, furniture, remodeling debris, wood and yard and tree waste

Junk piles are not allowed between collections

Brooklyn Park code enforcement treats a pile of junk, debris, garbage, litter or hazardous waste, including yard waste and animal waste, as a violation, and all garbage has to stay inside a container with a tight-fitting lid. Between the cleanup date and a hauler pickup, a bulky item belongs in a garage or another out-of-sight spot rather than at the curb or in the yard.

City of Brooklyn Park licensed haulers and Hennepin County

Arrange a large item pickup with your licensed hauler

A household with a couch, a mattress, an appliance or a pile that is not scheduled for the fall cleanup and cannot wait for it.

Cost & conditions
Every hauler sets its own charge for large items, special items and extra garbage, and the city publishes a worksheet for comparing them rather than a rate. Call the hauler on your account and ask for the large item and special item price, along with any fuel surcharge, before the pickup is booked.
Arrange it
Brooklyn Park requires every household to choose and set up its own service with a licensed hauler. The city lists Ace Solid Waste, Curbside Waste, Republic Services, Walters and Waste Management with their addresses and phone numbers, and residents call the hauler directly to schedule a bulky or special item pickup.

Prices, accepted items and limits differ by company, and the city does not publish them. Cart delivery and removal fees, fuel surcharges and other surcharges are set by each hauler as well, so the same pile can cost different amounts through different companies.

Take it to the city Special Material Drop-off Day

A household with appliances, mattresses, electronics, tires, batteries, scrap metal, cardboard or paper to shred, on one of the two Saturdays the city runs each year.

Cost & conditions
$5 each computer, monitor or television accepted at the city Special Material Drop-off Day, with other electronic items taken free. Residents of Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Crystal and New Hope, paying by cash or check made out to the City of Brooklyn Park.
Arrange it
The event is held twice a year at the Brooklyn Park Operations and Maintenance campus, 8300 Noble Avenue North, and is open to residents of Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Crystal and New Hope. Stations are laid out for paper, mattresses, electronics, oil and antifreeze, tires, batteries, appliances and scrap metal, so packing the vehicle in reverse station order speeds up unloading.

Furniture, garbage, carpet and pads, exercise equipment, lamps, lawn furniture, leaf blowers, light bulbs, paint, railroad ties, toasters and general trash are not accepted. Payment is cash or check only, and the event runs on a posted date rather than year round.

Drop it at the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station

A Hennepin County household with electronics, an appliance, a mattress, tires or household hazardous waste that needs a weekday drop-off rather than a curbside pickup.

Cost & conditions
Charges depend on the material. The county publishes per item prices for televisions, computer monitors and laptops, large appliances, mattresses and box springs and tires, and takes most other electronics, all recycling and organics at no charge with limits. Confirm the item and the current price on 612-348-3777 before loading.
Arrange it
Drive to 8100 Jefferson Highway N in Brooklyn Park, Tuesday through Saturday between 9 am and 5 pm. Bring proof of residency such as a driver's license or utility bill, stay in the vehicle unless staff direct otherwise, and keep items in the trunk, the truck bed or a trailer.

County households only, and household hazardous waste comes from Hennepin, Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Ramsey, Scott and Washington county households. Businesses, rental properties and condominium, neighborhood and townhouse associations are excluded. The station refuses furniture, carpet, construction materials, remodeling debris, concrete, asphalt, wood and yard and tree waste.

Donate reusable furniture, mattresses and building material

A household with furniture, a mattress, building material or housewares in good enough condition to be reused, on the city reuse day or at a donation warehouse.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The city Material Reuse Donation Day takes accepted reusable items free at 8300 Noble Avenue North, and Bridging takes accepted drop-off donations free with no appointment during warehouse hours. Partners refuse anything that is not reusable or recyclable.
Arrange it
The city reuse day runs with Bridging, Better Futures MN and Hennepin County, and staff and volunteers vet each load on site against the published accepted list. Bridging takes the same kind of donation year round at its Bloomington, Plymouth and Roseville warehouses.

Only listed items in reusable condition are taken. Couches, loveseats and ottomans have to be 90 inches or shorter with no sleeper, powered or reclining mechanism, mattresses and box springs have to be stain and rip free in standard sizes, and appliances, toilets, paint, aerosols, electronics, garbage and recyclables are refused at the city reuse day.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Brooklyn Park means matching the load to the right gate. The Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway N takes electronics, large appliances, mattresses and box springs, tires, batteries, oil, paint, fluorescent bulbs, sharps and recyclables from county households, with charges for televisions, monitors, laptops, appliances, mattresses and tires and no charge for most other electronics, with proof of residency required, Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Brooklyn Park.

How much does TV removal cost in Brooklyn Park?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Brooklyn Park?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do televisions, monitors and electronics go in Brooklyn Park?

To the Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway N. Televisions, computer monitors and laptops cost a set price per piece there, while most other electronics, cords and media are free with a limit of five of the same type a year. The city Special Material Drop-off Day charges a lower flat price for computers, monitors and televisions and takes other electronics free.Official guidance

Who handles garbage and large item pickup in Brooklyn Park?

You choose the hauler. Brooklyn Park requires every household and business to set up its own service with one of the five licensed haulers, Ace Solid Waste, Curbside Waste, Republic Services, Walters or Waste Management, and each one sets its own rates, cart sizes and charges for large and special items. The city contracts separately for curbside recycling, currently through Waste Management, and property owners pay for that on the utility bill.Official guidance

Which haulers are licensed in Brooklyn Park, and what should I ask them?

Ace Solid Waste, Curbside Waste, Republic Services, Walters and Waste Management are the five licensed haulers the city lists, with addresses and phone numbers on the city garbage page. The city also publishes a worksheet of the questions to compare, covering the monthly cost for each cart size, charges for yard waste, organics, extra garbage and large or special items, any senior or every-other-week discount, cart delivery or removal fees, and fuel and other surcharges.Official guidance

Can I donate usable furniture or a mattress instead of throwing it away?

Yes, when the piece meets the size and condition limits. Bridging takes free drop-off donations with no appointment at its Plymouth, Bloomington and Roseville warehouses, including mattresses and box springs that are stain and rip free and sofas 90 inches or shorter with no sleeper, powered or reclining mechanism. The city also runs a Material Reuse Donation Day with Bridging, Better Futures MN and Hennepin County, which vets each load on site.Official guidance
