Mattresses and box springs

Special rules apply

The county landfill takes bedding: Ann Street Landfill lists mattress, box springs and furniture among the Subtitle-D material it accepts, and the Cumberland County fee schedule prices bulky waste per item with a cap for a single pickup. Fayetteville's own bulky programme names chairs, tables, couches and household clutter rather than bedding, so the curb route for a mattress is still a question for the call center.

City cost & eligibility
From $10 per bulky item at the Ann Street Landfill, with a 20 dollar cap for a single pickup. Cumberland County customers disposing of material that is not covered by the household user fee. The Fayetteville curbside bulky programme takes up to five household items at no charge on B week but does not name bedding, so confirm a mattress with the 1FAY Call Center on 910-433-1FAY before it is set out.
When & how
Confirm the piece with the call center before it goes out. If it is taken as a bulky item it goes to the curb by 6 a.m. on the B week bulky day, and if it is scheduled as a larger load it goes out only on the arranged date.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry, off the road and at least four feet from carts, fences, mailboxes, trees and vehicles, and keep it away from paint, chemicals and electronics, which are refused in the bulky pile. Do not mix it with other waste, because a mixed load is not collected.

Curb by 6 a.m., four feet from everything else

Bulky items go to the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day and sit at least four feet from carts, fences, mailboxes, trees, poles, vehicles and other obstructions so the truck arm has room to work. Rollout carts follow their own placement rules, one foot from the curb with the handles facing the residence and the lids within six to eight inches of closing.

Empty the piece and deal with the doors

Every bulky item has to be emptied before collection, and the city lists refrigerators, freezers, cabinets, entertainment centers and all other furniture and appliances in that requirement. Doors must be secured or removed from anything that can latch, and the county adds the same rule at the Ann Street Landfill white goods area, where refrigerators and freezers have to be empty with the doors removed.

Paid loads are inspected and paid first

The city states that all fees must be paid before collection, and the bulky guide adds that paid collections are set out and inspected before payment, so a scheduled load is seen at the curb first and then paid for. A load carrying construction debris, more than five bulky items or a contractor pile is refused, and a mixed pile of bulky items and other waste is not collected at all.

City of Fayetteville Solid Waste Division with Cumberland County

Set out up to five bulky items on B week

A household with a couch, a table, chairs, household clutter or another large item that will not fit in the cart.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Single-family residences and units in multi-family properties of seven units or less that pay the annual residential solid waste fee, with up to five bulky items collected at no additional charge.
Arrange it
Put up to five items at the curb by 6 a.m. on the B week bulky day, which is the same day as the yard waste collection for the address, four feet from carts, fences, mailboxes, trees and vehicles. Larger or awkward loads are scheduled through the FayFixIt app, the 1FAY Call Center on 910-433-1FAY, or 455 Grove Street.

Five items is the ceiling for the free set-out, the property has to hold a single-family residential unit, waste is not collected from a vacant or abandoned lot, a mixed pile is refused, and contractor debris, tires, fuel containers, automobile parts, glass, dirt, rocks, tree stumps, oxygen tanks, batteries, propane tanks, electronics, paint and chemicals never go in the pile.

Schedule and pay for a larger or move-out load

A household with more than five bulky items, a big pile, or a house being cleared out.

Cost & conditions
From $100 per scheduled bulky load of six items or more up to 20 cubic yards, with more than 20 cubic yards at 357 dollars a load and a move-out pickup at 100 dollars under 20 cubic yards or 357 dollars at 20 cubic yards and above. Households at a property with a single-family residential unit that pay the annual residential solid waste fee. The fee has to be paid before collection, after the load is set out and inspected.
Arrange it
Call the 1FAY Call Center at 910-433-1FAY, use the FayFixIt app, or visit 455 Grove Street to open the request. The call center answers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, the load is inspected at the curb, and payment is made before the collection happens.

The paid schedule covers bulky household material rather than construction or hazardous material, and the fee is charged by volume, so the pile has to be measured before the price is fixed. Contractor-generated debris is refused at any price, and the pile still has to be four feet clear of obstruction and free of mixed waste.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Fayetteville runs to two Cumberland County sites. The Ann Street Landfill at 698 Ann Street is the county permitted landfill for municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, bulky items, inert material and other chargeable waste, and it holds the separate white goods area for refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers and other appliances, the tire area for whole scrap tires, and the electronic recycling area that takes televisions, computers, printers, scanners, network equipment and other devices. It opens Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., charges a flat rate for a car, SUV, minivan or pickup not pulling a trailer, prices bulky items per item up to a cap, and takes household garbage free for residents who pay the solid waste user fee up to four cubic yards a week. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in fayetteville.

How much does mattress removal cost in fayetteville?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in fayetteville?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

Does Fayetteville collect mattresses at the curb?

The curbside programme takes up to five household items too large for the cart at no charge on B week but names chairs, tables, couches and household clutter rather than bedding, so call the 1FAY Call Center on 910-433-1FAY to confirm a mattress at the curb. The county route is published: Ann Street Landfill accepts mattress, box springs and furniture, and the Cumberland County fee schedule prices bulky waste per item with a cap for each pickup.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Fayetteville?

The City of Fayetteville Solid Waste Division, under Public Services. Household waste goes out weekly in a city-issued 96 gallon cart, recyclables every other week in the blue cart, yard waste as up to ten containerized items a week, large limbs up to ten cubic yards on A week and bulky items up to five on B week, all under the same annual residential fee. The 1FAY Call Center on 910-433-1FAY answers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and the Solid Waste office is at 455 Grove Street.Official guidance

Which collections have to be paid for?

Anything past the free limits. Six or more bulky items and any pile over 20 cubic yards are paid and scheduled, household construction debris is paid by volume with a single commode collected at no charge, and a lawn or yard load above the standard amount is paid as well. The city states that all fees must be paid before collection, and the bulky guide adds that paid collections are set out and inspected before payment.Official guidance

Where do bulky items go on collection day?

To the curb by 6 a.m., laid out at least four feet from carts, fences, mailboxes, trees, poles and vehicles, and clear of the road and any low hanging line. Each household needs a single-family residential unit on the property, waste is not collected from a vacant or abandoned lot, bulky items cannot be mixed with other waste, and metal items wait for a scheduled Wednesday collection instead of going out with the pile.Official guidance
