The city Solid Waste Division runs household waste weekly in a 96 gallon cart, recycling every other week in a blue cart, ten containerized yard waste items a week, large limbs up to ten cubic yards on A week, and up to five bulky items on B week, all under the same annual residential fee. The bulky list names chairs, tables, couches and household clutter, and refrigerators, washing machines and dryers travel a separate metal route that only runs on Wednesdays and has to be scheduled. Electronics never go in the carts or the bulky pile, because North Carolina bans televisions and computers from landfills and the city sends them to the electronic recycling area at the Ann Street Landfill, which Cumberland County operates at 698 Ann Street. Construction debris is different again: the city collects homeowner-generated material on a published fee schedule and refuses anything a contractor produced. Paint, chemicals and other household hazardous waste go to the county collection center on Wilkes Road, which is free to Cumberland County homeowners.
