No charge. Free for household electronics on the New York Covered Electronic Equipment list at every county transfer station. Only two televisions or computer monitors, or one of each, may be brought per visit, and a drop-off of ten or more items needs a call ahead on 845-291-3246.
When & how
Drive the device to a county transfer station, which is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. The city also runs an annual electronic drop-off day at the 76 Monhagen Avenue recycling centre, so ask Public Works for the next date before waiting for it.
Get it ready
Erase personal data before handover, keep screens upright and protected for the drive, and remember that a microwave, toaster oven, vacuum cleaner or other small electrically powered item is not covered and cannot be dropped at the county stations.
An Orange County transfer station prices each stream separately, so separate solid waste, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, scrap metal, tires and appliances before arriving. Every load is weighed or counted at the station scale, Transfer Station 1 in New Hampton is the only site for construction debris and yard waste, and Newburgh is running its Citizens Drop-Off Area only, so confirm which station takes the load and how it is paid for before driving.

Drive to Transfer Station 1 at 21 Training Center Lane in New Hampton, Transfer Station 2 at 9 Orr Avenue in Newburgh or Transfer Station 3 at 86 Tow Path Road in Port Jervis, all open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
The Newburgh station is running its Citizens Drop-Off Area only and is not taking construction and demolition debris, yard waste or bulk waste, so those loads go to New Hampton or Port Jervis. Household bagged garbage is charged per bag at the scale, and the streams are priced separately.
Construction and demolition debris from home improvement projects, trees and stumps, yard waste, solid waste such as furniture and mattresses that is not in a bag, scrap metal, air conditioners and refrigerators, tires, electronics and free resident recycling.
This is the county station for the streams Newburgh is not taking, so construction material and yard waste arrive here rather than at Orr Avenue. Each stream is priced separately at the scale, household bagged garbage is charged per bag, and electronics are limited to two televisions or monitors per visit with a call ahead for ten or more items.
