The city puts household furniture, bedding and mattresses, large appliances and bundled tree and hedge trimmings in one curbside bulk category, and the refuse rules page states that this material may be placed between the sidewalk and curb on collection day. No appointment and no separate charge are published for that route because the refuse service is billed on the annual tax bill.

When & how
Put the bulk material out with the container on the regular refuse collection day, at the curb by 6:30 a.m. and no earlier than the night before.
Get it ready
Remove the doors from refrigerators and other appliances with latches, tie loose wood, trees, bushes and hedges in bundles no longer than four feet, no thicker than 18 inches and no heavier than 60 pounds, and remove nails from discarded lumber or bend them over so no point is exposed. The city does not collect radioactive, volatile, highly flammable, explosive, biomedical, infectious, toxic or hazardous material, and it does not collect waste generated by a contractor.
Large appliances are named in the curbside bulk category with one published condition: doors must be removed from refrigerators and other appliances with latches. The county ecopark also takes appliances and charges only for a unit that still contains refrigerant.

Remove the door from a refrigerator or another appliance with a latch, empty the unit, and keep it upright enough to be handled safely. If the unit still holds refrigerant, expect the county ecopark to charge its published appliance-with-refrigerant fee, while the curbside service has no separate charge published for an appliance prepared this way.

The city describes payment at the time the collection agreement is signed but publishes no amount, so confirm the charge with the Commercial Refuse Business Office at 428-6928, which also explains the other options available to property owners.

Contact the Commercial Refuse Business Office, describe what needs to be collected, meet the representative on site to sign a collection agreement, pay at that time, and the collection is scheduled for the next business day.
