Kent hosts free recycling collection events that take material the curb will not: Saturday events in spring, summer and fall that cover appliances, mattresses and bulky material, Friday mini events focused on electronics, shredding and scrap metal, and paint only events under the Washington State Paint Stewardship Program.

Split the load by material. Appliances, CFC appliances, batteries, bulky yard debris, mattresses and box springs without futons, porcelain toilets, tubs and sinks, propane tanks, scrap metal and styrofoam go to a Saturday event, with concrete, brick and rock only at the summer event and passenger tires without rims, limited to ten per vehicle, in the spring and fall only. Televisions, monitors and the rest of the electronics list go to a Friday mini event, and shredding is limited to four legal sized boxes or five paper bags.
Televisions, monitors, computers and the rest of the electronics list are accepted free at the Friday mini recycling events, while the Saturday events take electronics but not televisions or monitors, and King County refuses televisions at its disposal facilities.

Get it ready
Bring televisions of every type, including plastic sets, wood console sets and big screens, along with computers, monitors and the rest of the list, and keep televisions and monitors out of the Saturday events and out of the garbage because King County does not accept them for disposal. Erase personal data before the device leaves the house.

Bow Lake Recycling and Transfer Station at 18800 Orillia Road S in Tukwila is the closest disposal site to Kent, open around the clock Monday through Thursday, from midnight to 11:30 p.m. on Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the weekend, with the recycling area open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. Vehicles and trailers together may not exceed forty feet, payment is by credit card, cash or Apple Pay, the twenty-five dollar unsecured load fee applies, and cardboard, clean wood, scrap metal and yard waste must be sorted for recycling.
