When & how
Take the item to the Sudbury Landfill at 414 Landfill Road during its published hours. Keep it out of both curbside containers in the meantime, because the recycling container takes only the listed paper, cardboard, can and plastic streams.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before the device leaves the house, and keep batteries out of both carts, because the city warns against putting lithium ion and vehicle batteries in the garbage container and takes them free at the hazardous waste facility. Remove any battery where the device allows and tape the terminals.
The rate sheet charges general waste loads, a lower rate for a vehicle carrying only cement, asphalt, concrete, soil or rock, and per unit rates for cooling appliances, televisions and computer hardware, and per tire rates for small tire loads. Mixing restricted material with other refuse applies the highest applicable charge to the whole load and the landfill may refuse it, so a clean single stream trip costs less than a mixed one.
Household hazardous waste is refused in the garbage container and goes free to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the Sudbury Landfill, which serves Walla Walla County residents and refuses business waste. Batteries are recycled free, house paint is free up to the monthly PaintCare limit, and motor oil is limited to fifty gallons a day in containers of five gallons or less with no drums. Sharps go in a labelled sealed puncture resistant container, and mercury containing lights are banned from both the landfill and the garbage under state law.

From $17.99 per general waste load under 300 pounds, with heavier loads charged by the ton and an additional 3.6 percent Washington State refuse tax. Walla Walla residents. A household with current sanitation services may apply its annual courtesy pass to one residential load up to 600 pounds including tax, while appliances with refrigerant, electronic devices, asbestos, tires and compost or dirt sales are excluded from that pass.
Arrange it
Drive the load to 414 Landfill Road and check in at the scale, open 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday from March 1 to October 31 and 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday from November 1 to February 28, with the pit closing half an hour earlier.

General waste loads from residents, a lower per ton stream for vehicles carrying only cement, asphalt, concrete, soil or rock, self hauled and municipally hauled yard waste at the compost facility, passenger car, SUV and pickup truck tires, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners with compressors, televisions and computer hardware, asbestos and medical waste under their own per ton rates, and household material on a general load such as sofas, washers and dryers.
Every load has to be secured and an unsecured or uncovered load carries its own extra charge. Mixing restricted material with other refuse applies the highest applicable charge to the whole load and the landfill may refuse a load at the supervisor's discretion. Scavenging from the landfill, the drop box or the hazardous waste exchange table is prohibited, children and pets must stay in the vehicle, and the pit area closes thirty minutes before closing time.

Motor oil must be uncontaminated, without drums and in containers of five gallons or less, paint must be PaintCare programme house paint with thinners, adhesives, roof tars, glues and solvents refused, and ammunition, explosives, smoke detectors, asbestos and medications go through separate routes.
