Finish clearing the space
The last few things still deserve a pickup.
You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Recology collects bulky items that do not fit the cart, and a residential account gets four free collections a year, each covering one large item or up to seven bags.
City cost & eligibility
Four curbside bulky item collections a year are free for a residential account, each covering one large item or up to seven bags. The hauler publishes a price list for commercial pickups and no residential rate for extra collections, so confirm any charge beyond the free allowance at 1-800-243-0291.
When & how
Schedule the collection with Recology customer service at 1-800-243-0291 or RecologySonomaMarin@recology.com, and set the material out only for the arranged day.
Get it ready
Keep each item at 60 pounds or less, since anything heavier counts as two collections, and keep anything longer than six feet, liquids, dirt, rock, concrete, asphalt, hazardous or infectious waste, ashes, televisions and monitors out of the pile.
Couch, love seat, recliner and other furniture are named on the accepted bulky item list and move on one of the four free collections a year.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Up to four free bulky item collections a year for a residential account with the service in your name, each covering one large item or up to seven bags. Each piece of furniture counts as one collection.
When & how
Call Recology at 1-800-243-0291 or email RecologySonomaMarin@recology.com to schedule the collection before the furniture goes out.
Get it ready
Keep the piece at 60 pounds or less, because anything heavier counts as two collections, and make sure the driver can load it safely into the truck. Furniture longer than six feet is refused.
Mattresses and box springs are named on the accepted bulky item list, and each one uses a separate collection from the four free pickups a year.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Up to four free bulky item collections a year for a residential account with the service in your name. A mattress is one collection and a box spring is another.
When & how
Call Recology at 1-800-243-0291 or email RecologySonomaMarin@recology.com to book the collection, then set the mattress out for the arranged day.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress at 60 pounds or less, and note that the hauler's worked example treats a mattress and a box spring as two separate collections.
Refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, dryers, stoves, washing machines, water heaters and garbage compactors are on the accepted bulky item list, and large appliances are exactly what the hazardous waste facility refuses.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Up to four free bulky item collections a year for a residential account with the service in your name, with each appliance counting as one collection. A unit holding refrigerant carries its own charge, which is listed separately.
When & how
Call Recology at 1-800-243-0291 or email RecologySonomaMarin@recology.com to schedule the appliance collection.
Get it ready
Keep it at 60 pounds or less, and confirm whether it holds refrigerant so the right charge is applied. Do not take a washer, dryer or other large appliance to the hazardous waste facility, which refuses them and sends residents back to the hauler.
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners are collected as bulky items, and the hauler publishes a separate refrigerant charge for them.
City cost & eligibility
$63 for the published refrigerant appliance charge for a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioning unit collected as a bulky item. Novato residential accounts using the curbside bulky item collection, which counts the unit as one of the four free collections a year while the refrigerant charge applies.
When & how
Call Recology at 1-800-243-0291 or email RecologySonomaMarin@recology.com and tell the hauler the unit holds refrigerant.
Get it ready
Keep it at 60 pounds or less, and confirm the refrigerant charge when the collection is booked, because it is applied on top of the free collection allowance.
Electronic waste stays out of the carts and goes to the Novato hazardous waste facility or to the free city electronic waste pickup.
City cost & eligibility

When & how

Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the carts and out of the bulky pile, because the hauler refuses televisions and monitors there. Wipe stored data before pickup and keep batteries separate from the device.

Exercise equipment is not named on the residential bulky item list, although an exercise bike appears on the hauler's commercial price list, so the hauler has to confirm the machine first.
City cost & eligibility
No residential price or acceptance line covers an exercise machine. The only published mention is an exercise bike on the commercial price list, so confirm the item and any charge with Recology at 1-800-243-0291 before it goes out.
When & how
Call Recology at 1-800-243-0291 with the machine type and weight, and treat it as one of the four free collections only if the hauler confirms it.
Get it ready
Describe the machine, its weight and whether it has a powered console, and keep it within the 60 pound limit and the six foot length limit that apply to bulky items.
A residential account gets four free bulky item collections a year, each covering one large item or up to seven bags, and the service account must be in your name. Each item must weigh 60 pounds or less, since anything heavier counts as two collections, each piece of furniture, large carpet or appliance counts as one collection, and the driver must be able to load it safely.

A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Novato.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Novato?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
