Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and monitors

Special rules apply

A television is not named in the city bulk list, and televisions are listed as not accepted at the regional computer recycling events, so neither curbside day nor the city event is a settled route. A retailer drop-off is the practical local answer.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no rate for a television, and its bulk list names furniture, sofas, appliances and mattresses rather than screens. The retailer alternative printed on the regional schedule carries its own per-item charge for monitors and televisions with size and daily limits, so confirm the current amount and the size rule before loading a vehicle, and ask the 311 contact center what the city will accept at the curb.
When & how
Ask the 311 contact center before a television goes out with the weekly bulk. The retailer drop-off runs during store hours, and the regional events run from 8 a.m. to noon on the published Saturdays but do not take televisions.
Get it ready
Settle the route before the item moves. If you use a retailer drop-off, check the size rule first: the schedule describes tube sets smaller than 31 inches and flat-panel LCD, plasma or LED sets smaller than 50 inches, with a limit of two items per household per day.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Everything goes out inside a short window

Toters, bulk trash and yard waste go to the curb no earlier than 3 p.m. on the day before your collection day, and no later than 7 a.m. on the day itself. The city code also asks for the containers to come back in by midnight after collection. Set out inside that window, because material left out at other times is a violation and the fine schedule starts with a written warning.

Set it out with the weekly city collection

A Hampton household with a sofa, mattress, appliance, window air conditioner or another oversized item that will not fit in the city toter.

Bring computers and household chemicals to the collection events

A Hampton household with computers, monitors, printers, phones or household chemicals that must not go in the trash.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Hampton residents bringing household quantities to the city and VPPSA events, where proof of residency may be requested and no residential fee is published. Business and medical material is not taken at the events.
Arrange it
These events are for computers and household chemicals. Televisions are on the not accepted list, so a television has to go to a retailer drop-off or wait for a city answer from 311.

Televisions are not accepted at the collection events, whatever their size. Computers, monitors, printers, phones and household chemicals are the items these events take.

Use a retailer drop-off for a television or monitor

A household with a television or monitor that cannot go to the curb or to the regional collection events.

Cost & conditions
The retailer sets its own price and size rules for televisions and monitors. The regional schedule describes a per-item charge for monitors and televisions with a limit of two items per household per day, and computer components and mobile phones at no charge with a limit of three items per household per day. Confirm the current price and size rule before the trip.
Arrange it
Take the item to a participating retailer during store hours and hand it to the recycling counter.

The sizes and daily limits come from the schedule: tube televisions smaller than 31 inches and flat-panel LCD, plasma or LED sets smaller than 50 inches, two items per household per day. Other retailers and charities on the same list handle computer components rather than televisions.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Three routes cover what the weekly truck will not take. The city landfill at 100 North Park Lane, off Big Bethel Road, is open to Hampton residents for bulk trash and is the destination for renovation material, with doors open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Building materials go in only with a valid City of Hampton building permit, and the answer line for the landfill is 757-751-6038. Next to it, the yard waste site takes leaves, grass, limbs and branches from residents and from contractors doing yard work in the city: a Hampton resident can drop up to ten cubic yards free with proof of residency, grass and leaves have to be debagged at the site, limbs or branches no bigger than 5 inches across and 5 feet long are the site limit, and dirt cannot be dumped there. Computers and household chemicals go to the collection events the city runs with the Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority at the Hampton Coliseum parking lot on Coliseum Drive, from 8 a.m. to noon on March 21, May 16, July 18, September 19 and November 21 in 2026, where the contractor wipes every hard drive before equipment is reused. Televisions are excluded from those events, so a television goes to a retailer drop-off instead. Household chemicals, including paint, solvents, fuels, pesticides and cleaners, must never be poured out or placed in the trash, and propane cylinders, even small ones, must not go in the container. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Hampton.

How much does TV removal cost in Hampton?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Hampton?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Will the city take a television at the curb?

Televisions are not on the city bulk list and they are listed as not accepted at the regional computer recycling events, so the published rules do not settle a curbside pickup. Call 311 or 757-727-8311 before setting one out, and expect that a retailer drop-off is the working alternative, with a per-item charge and a limit of two items per household per day.Official guidance

Where do paint, fuel and other household chemicals go?

To a household chemical collection event sponsored by the city and the Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority, held at the Hampton Coliseum parking lot on Coliseum Drive from 8 a.m. to noon on the published Saturdays: March 21, May 16, July 18, September 19 and November 21 in 2026. Only Hampton residents may participate, businesses are directed to VPPSA at 757-259-9850 for a fee-based drop-off, and asbestos, explosives, radioactive material, business or medical waste and large quantities of unknown chemicals are not accepted. Never place a propane tank in the trash.Official guidance
