Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Text us about your setup
  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Special rules apply

Portsmouth publishes no curbside electronics pickup, so a television, monitor, computer or anything with a cord goes to an SPSA household hazardous waste and e-waste site or a city collection event.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free to residents of SPSA member communities such as Portsmouth with proof of residence, limited to five items a day with unlimited trips a year, and free at the city's own special collection events. Confirm the accepting site and the next event date before you load the car.
When & how
Take e-waste to the Regional Landfill at 1 Bob Foeller Drive on weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, or to the Chesapeake transfer station at 901 Hollowell Lane on the first Wednesday and third Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, and watch the city page for special collection events.
Get it ready
Keep the device out of the trash can and the recycling cart, bring it in a personal vehicle with proof of residence, and check the accepting site's window before you drive. Commercial e-waste is only accepted at the Regional Landfill.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Hazardous material stays out of the cans

Paint, oil, hot ashes and hazardous material cannot go in a trash can, and only garbage, trash and recyclables belong in a city container, so electronics, batteries and household chemicals go to an SPSA collection site or a city event instead.

For your Dropcurb pickup

SPSA household hazardous waste and e-waste

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Portsmouth residents who haul their own material use SPSA, the regional authority the city belongs to. Household waste including furniture, mattresses and small appliances is free for the first twelve visits a calendar year with proof of residence in a private vehicle, at Chesapeake on Monday or Saturday morning, Landstown and Suffolk on weekdays or Saturday morning, with card the only payment accepted. Paint, chemicals, batteries and electronics go to the household hazardous waste and e-waste drop offs on a weekday or Saturday morning, and construction debris needs a private hauler. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Portsmouth.

How much does TV removal cost in Portsmouth?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Portsmouth?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

How do I dispose of a TV in Portsmouth?

Take it to an SPSA household hazardous waste and e-waste site rather than the curb. The Regional Landfill in Suffolk takes monitors and televisions on weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, Chesapeake transfer station collects them on the first Wednesday and third Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, and residents of member communities get unlimited trips with proof of residence up to five e-waste items a day. The city also runs special collection events with electronics recycling.Official guidance
