Remove refrigerator/freezer doors, hinges and locks. DSNY does not collect appliances with R600a or R32 refrigerant; contact the manufacturer for options.
For pieces too large for a bin or bag, set bulk items out between 6pm and midnight before the correct collection day. Keep them out of the street and clear of pedestrian traffic or neighboring frontage. DSNY will not collect from private property.
Place the prepared appliance at the curb, back facing the street, between 6pm and midnight before the appointment. Leave it there after treatment for collection on the next recycling day.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?+
Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.
Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?+
Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.
Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
Can a washer or dryer go out with NYC recycling?+
Yes. DSNY lists washing machines and clothes dryers as recyclable bulk items. Use the recycling collection for your address. A refrigerator is different: it needs the refrigerant process before collection, and some refrigerants are excluded.Official guidance
Does NYC pick up every type of refrigerator?+
No. Eligible cooling appliances require a DSNY refrigerant-removal appointment, followed by collection on the next recycling day. Appliances containing R600a or R32 refrigerant are excluded, as are oversized units that cannot fit the collection truck.
