Will the city take it?
Brooklyn uses NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) collection. For residential bulk pickup, the right route depends on the item and your address. Check the material, collection day and preparation before bringing anything out.
Non-cooling household appliances generally follow the bulk-item rules.

For pieces too large for a bin or bag, set bulk items out between 6pm and midnight before the correct collection day. Keep them out of the street and clear of pedestrian traffic or neighboring frontage. DSNY will not collect from private property.
Place the prepared appliance at the curb, back facing the street, between 6pm and midnight before the appointment. Leave it there after treatment for collection on the next recycling day.

How much does junk removal cost in Brooklyn?+
Dropcurb prices your pickup by the items you choose. A standard sofa is $79 first and $29 additional; a queen mattress is $99 first and $30 additional. The highest first-item price applies once, with additional-item prices for everything else. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Any applicable sales tax and the final total appear before payment.
Can I book same-day junk removal in Brooklyn?+
Book by 2pm at your Brooklyn pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout, including future dates. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact appointment time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.
Will you carry furniture down my apartment stairs?+
Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move your items out of the apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We handle loading and haul-away from an accessible outdoor spot. If getting it outside is not possible, a service that includes indoor carrying is a better fit.
What if my building limits when items can be outside?+
Contact us before booking so we can agree on a workable pickup plan. Check your building's rules and use a permitted outdoor location with a clear path. Items do not need to be outside when you book. Follow the preparation instructions in your confirmation; a note alone does not confirm a restricted access arrangement.
Does mattress pickup include my box spring and frame?+
The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring and bed frame separately if they are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item; you will see the combined price before booking.
Is a sectional the same price as a standard sofa?+
No. Choose the sofa type that matches what you have. Sectionals, sleeper sofas and reclining sofas have their own choices. A standard sofa or loveseat has fixed seats and no pull-out bed or reclining mechanism. Use the booking guide or send a photo if you are unsure.
Do I have to stay home for the pickup?+
You do not need to be home when the items are outside and accessible. We send pickup updates and photos when it is done. If you have agreed on a building-access handoff with us, be available for that plan.

What if my Brooklyn building requires paperwork or a loading-area reservation?+
Tell us before booking if your building requires insurance paperwork, a reserved loading area, a staff handoff or limited access hours. We need to confirm a workable arrangement. Booking a day does not reserve an exact appointment time or approve a building requirement.
Can I book pickup around a new furniture delivery or move-out?+
Yes. Choose a pickup day that gives you time to get the old items outside. Arrange any indoor carrying separately, and confirm what your retailer or movers will handle. If you only have a narrow access window, contact us before booking to check whether we can make it work.
Will NYC collect an old couch in Brooklyn?+
Yes, residential couches can use DSNY bulk collection. Use your address’s trash-only collection day for a non-recyclable sofa. Separate a pull-out sofa’s metal frame for recycling. Ordinary bulk pickup follows the route schedule; it is not an appointment service.Official guidance

Seal each mattress and box spring in its own plastic bag before placing it out for DSNY. Use a bag that is not red or orange; the city does not provide one.
