Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Call 2 Haul booked bulk pickup

Accepted with preparation

Salt Lake City picks up large items through Call 2 Haul, which brings a truck to the address rather than asking for a pile at the curb. Two scheduled pickups a year are included with residential curbside garbage service, one bulk waste and one green waste.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Two scheduled bulk waste pickups a year are included when a household signs up for the city residential curbside garbage service, and no per-item fee is published on the retained pages. The programme is a booked collection rather than an open pile week.
When & how
By booking, not on a standing date, through mySLC or on (801) 535-6953.
Get it ready
Book the pickup and follow the item conditions: carpet and pad rolled into five foot lengths and bound, long loose items no longer than five feet and no heavier than 60 pounds, small miscellaneous items boxed or bagged at a 60 pound maximum and kept off the street, and fragile glass, televisions and computers visible and in containers where possible.

Televisions, computers and other electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronic waste is eligible for Call 2 Haul, and the city's own wording is that if it has a plug it is likely eligible. The list names televisions, computers, printers, monitors, scanners, mobile phones, small kitchen appliances and stereo equipment.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Electronics go out inside the two scheduled bulk pickups a year included with residential curbside garbage service, and the county hazardous waste centre also takes televisions, monitors, computers and peripherals with no published household fee.
When & how
Collected at the address on a booked Call 2 Haul pickup, with a separate county drop-off available for household hazardous waste and much of the same equipment.
Get it ready
Keep fragile items such as televisions, monitors and computers visible and in containers where possible so they do not break, erase personal data before handover, and book the pickup through mySLC or on (801) 535-6953. Glass doors and windows follow the same visible and contained rule.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Five feet, sixty pounds, and nothing loose in the street

Long loose items such as lumber, blinds, pipes, brooms and mops are limited to five feet and 60 pounds, loose small items go in a box or bag at a 60 pound maximum and stay off the street, and carpet and pad are rolled into five foot lengths and bound. Tires are limited to four automobile tires with no large truck tires.

Fragile items contained, refrigerator doors secured

Glass doors, televisions, computers, windows and other fragile items should be visible and placed in containers where possible so nothing breaks during the pickup, and a refrigerator or other coolant containing appliance has to have its doors removed or taped and belted shut before it is set out.

Salt Lake City Call 2 Haul

Salt Lake City Sustainability Department, with Salt Lake County for landfilling and household hazardous waste

Haul the load to the Salt Lake Valley Landfill

A household with a renovation load, a larger volume than the booked pickups cover, or material that needs to go over the scales.

Cost & conditions
The county landfill page prints no rate and points to account and payment services instead, so confirm the disposal price and the covering requirement at the scales on 385-468-6370 before loading.
Arrange it
Secure the load, drive to 6030 W. California Ave. (1300 S.) during scale hours Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and check in over the scales.

Every load has to be securely covered or an additional charge applies, the site closes on Sundays, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, solar panels and battery systems are not accepted, and the hazardous waste point there refuses business waste.

Salt Lake Valley Landfill

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Salt Lake City splits by material. Household bulky items normally leave through a booked Call 2 Haul pickup, but a resident who would rather drive can take a load to the Salt Lake Valley Landfill at 6030 W. California Ave., where the scales are open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and every load has to be securely covered or an extra charge applies. Household chemicals are the exception in every direction: paint, fuels, pesticides, cleaning supplies, batteries, cooking oil, automotive fluids, aerosols, bulbs and mercury devices go to the Salt Lake County collection centre at 8805 South 700 West in Sandy, which opens Monday to Saturday and refuses radioactive material and explosives. Televisions, monitors, computers and peripherals are accepted at the county centre as well as through Call 2 Haul, and spring clean-outs are easier when the clean and dry mattress, the five foot lumber limit and the four tire limit are checked before anything moves. County landfill

Salt Lake Valley Landfill

6030 W. California Ave. (1300 S.), Salt Lake City, UT

Household and project waste delivered by residents, taken over the scales, along with compost purchases at the same site. Materials accepted are set out on the county's materials page rather than on the landfill overview.

Every disposal load has to be securely covered from where it starts until it is deposited or an additional charge applies, the hazardous waste collection point at the landfill does not accept business waste and directs businesses to 385-468-4380, and solar panels and battery systems are not accepted.

Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sundays, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Disposal loads, hazardous waste and compost purchases all check in at the scales, and the landfill answers on 385-468-6370.

The county page prints no disposal rate and links account and payment services instead, so confirm the current scale charge on 385-468-6370 before a load is built.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Salt Lake City.

How much does TV removal cost in Salt Lake City?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Salt Lake City?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

How does Call 2 Haul work in Salt Lake City?

It is a booked pickup rather than a pile programme. Two scheduled bulk waste collections a year are included with residential curbside garbage service, one for bulky waste and one for green waste, and the household requests them through mySLC or on (801) 535-6953. The city picks the items up at the address after booking.Official guidance

Does Salt Lake City take televisions and computers?

Yes, through Call 2 Haul: the city says that if an item has a plug it is likely eligible, and the list names televisions, computers, printers, monitors, scanners, mobile phones, small kitchen appliances and stereo equipment. Keep fragile items visible and in containers where possible so they do not break, and note that the county hazardous waste centre takes the same equipment.Official guidance

How many bulk pickups do Salt Lake City residents get?

Two scheduled bulk waste pickups a year are included when a household signs up for the city residential curbside garbage service: one bulk waste collection and one green waste collection. They are booked rather than automatic, through mySLC or on (801) 535-6953, and the programme is a scheduled item pickup rather than a pile left at the curb.Official guidance

How many tires will Salt Lake City take?

Up to four automobile tires, and bicycle tires and tubes, through Call 2 Haul. Large truck tires are not accepted, and bicycle tires and tubes have to be removed from the wheel before set-out, although the bicycle wheel itself can go out separately for a different recycling route.Official guidance

What do I need before taking a load to the Salt Lake Valley Landfill?

A securely covered load, because the county requires every vehicle to keep its load covered from where it starts until it is deposited at the landfill and charges extra otherwise. The scales are open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sundays, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, and questions go to 385-468-6370.Official guidance
