Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Televisions are collected as a scheduled bulk item, while most electronics go to the SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station free of charge for residents.

City cost & eligibility
Norfolk does not state a curb price for a scheduled television pickup and lists electronics dropped at the SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station as free of charge, so call Norfolk Cares at (757) 664-6510 and confirm which route fits the item.
When & how
Schedule a television on the MyNorfolk app or portal or by calling (757) 664-6510 no later than 3 p.m. the day before collection, or take electronics to the SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station at 3136 Woodland Avenue on Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Secure television glass so it cannot spill, remove batteries that come out of a device and take lithium and rechargeable batteries to the transfer station rather than the cart, deliver drop offs in a personal vehicle that carries no company logo, expect a limit of five items per visit, and note that commercial loads are not accepted.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Every pile outside the cart needs a request

Overflow trash and bulk waste have to be scheduled, and the request has to reach the city no later than 3 p.m. the day before the collection day. Residents use the MyNorfolk app or portal, email, or Norfolk Cares at (757) 664-6510, and the collection then happens on the normal trash day. A pile that was never scheduled may draw a Notice of Violation, and a scheduled pickup the crew misses is taken the following week.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Take electronics or household hazardous waste to the SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station

A Norfolk resident with electronics, lithium or rechargeable batteries, paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, a propane cylinder or another household hazardous item.

Cost & conditions
Norfolk lists electronics dropped at the transfer station as free of charge and lists no price for household hazardous waste, so call (757) 961-3981 and confirm the terms before the trip.
Arrange it
Take the load to 3136 Woodland Avenue on Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m., arrive in a personal vehicle that carries no company logo, and bring proof of Norfolk residency.

Residency proof is required, the electronics limit is five items per visit, household hazardous waste is limited to five gallons or 75 pounds of material per visit, fluorescent tubes have to be four feet or shorter, commercial electronics are not accepted, tires and ordinary household trash are not part of this drop off, and city pages disagree about the resident hours, so call before a trip.

Through your building

Buildings that arrange their own hauling

A Norfolk apartment or condominium building where the property arranges its own hauling rather than relying on the city collection channel.

Cost & conditions
Where a Norfolk building arranges its own hauling, the cost and the accepted items are set by the building or its private hauler rather than by the city, which lists no rate for it. The four units or less figure the city publishes applies to curbside recycling eligibility, so confirm the collection channel on (757) 664-6510.
Arrange it
Ask the building manager or the property's hauler about the bulky item, mattress and appliance process first, and use the city channel only for an address that is on the city collection system.

The city publishes the four units or less figure as a curbside recycling eligibility rule and states no bulk pickup size boundary, so a building of any size should confirm on (757) 664-6510 whether the city channel reaches it, and a private hauler's rules on appliances, refrigerant units and electronics are set by that hauler rather than posted by the city.

Check collection eligibility

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Norfolk households use the city collection for trash, recycling and yard waste, with recycling picked up every other week on the trash day and yard waste limited to twenty clear bags or twenty tied bundles per collection. Anything larger is scheduled: residents request a bulk or special pickup on the MyNorfolk app or portal, by email, or through Norfolk Cares at (757) 664-6510 by 3 p.m. the day before, the city caps bulk waste at twelve collections a year and three cubic yards at a time, and charges may apply above that size. Electronics, lithium batteries and household hazardous waste are not collected at the curb and go to the SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station at 3136 Woodland Avenue on Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m., where electronics are free for residents, the limit is five items per visit and proof of Norfolk residency is required. Two special waste collection events a year take the same material free, construction and demolition material has to go to a private contractor, and tires are limited to four per collection day and twelve a year. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Norfolk.

How much does TV removal cost in Norfolk?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Norfolk?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do Norfolk residents take an old television or computer?

Norfolk residents take electronics to the SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station at 3136 Woodland Avenue, free of charge, on Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. The flyer lists televisions, computers, monitors, printers, batteries, microwaves and small household appliances among the accepted items, the load has to arrive in a personal vehicle that is not marked with company logos, the limit is five items per visit, and commercial electronics are not accepted. A television can also be scheduled as a curbside bulk item through Norfolk Cares at (757) 664-6510.Official guidance
