That bulky service is where a couch, mattress, appliance, television or other large piece goes, with up to five items in each of four collection weeks a year in the second week of February, May, August and November. Anything that cannot wait for a collection week, including construction debris and scrap metal, moves through a rented container or a San Bernardino County disposal site in Redlands or Rialto, tires are refused by the container and go to a county site, and household hazardous waste goes to a county collection facility at no charge for county residents.

Construction and demolition debris does not go in a city barrel. Small jobs move in a rented Yucaipa Disposal container, larger jobs use a roll-off, and self-hauled material goes to a San Bernardino County landfill, where an ordinary residential load is charged by weight and a dense load falls under the hard-to-handle rate.

Scrap metal does not belong in any of the three barrels: metal is marked as not allowed in the blue recycling barrel, and the bulky program's published list names furniture, appliances, mattresses and electronic waste rather than loose metal. Self-haul loads are accepted at San Timoteo Landfill, 31 Refuse Road in Redlands, Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and at Mid-Valley Landfill, 2390 Alder Avenue in Rialto, Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both sites close on the six county holidays, and an uncovered or unsecured load doubles the disposal fee.Official guidance
